If they go the DLC route with finished tracks, it would make sense, assuming they get RHCPs agreement on the change in licensing.

We'll likely start hearing a bit more 6 months to a year after the initial firing, when a bunch of NDAs expire.

Just like how Kotaku made the headline "Rocksmith is the first game to use a real guitar"

Unfortunately it's not just gaming journalists that suck. Rolling Stone also said that Rocksmith is the first game to use a real guitar.

    Another "smash hits" kinda thing?
I think they mean, they'll let it sit for a while and bring it back later on like they did with Wolfenstein where they brought back these games with a bit of hype surrounding them. I wouldn't expect it to be back in this generation of consoles, unless Harmonix finds a way to make it 2007 again.

    This.

I really don't think a hiatus will help the franchise and its sales.

They're keeping the IP. It may be profitable in other places (The iPhone/Android games are still out there), and if games turn around, of they decide to go another direction, they can revive it.

I would dare to guess the next GH game will be released for the next gen systems. Not talking about Nintendo's next, since it will be more along the lines of current gen systems.

Well, it'll probably be on Project Cafe as well as the other new systems. Maybe the hiatus of the series is due to (maybe getting ready for) working on a new installment for new hardware or something?
