    The Blackened Thread

Guitar riffs churned from the depths of hell. Grim vocals emitted from blistered throats. Blasting drums ordering the troops to battle. Distorted bass thundering below. This is a thread for all things raw, ugly, and dark.

Fans of first wave black metal (Venom, Celtic Frost), black/speed/thrash (Toxic Holocaust, Midnight), blackened thrash (Skeletonwitch, Destroyer 666), blackened death (Goatwhore, Crionics), blackened crust (Iskra, Infernal Stronghold), and Japanese street (Abigail, Sabbat) can find peers here. A place to gather for those who love Bathory, Hellhammer, Sarcófago, or the metal scenes in Brazil and Japan.

Discussion of 2nd wave black metal, "3rd wave black metal," atmospheric black metal, suicidal black metal, NSBM, or other forms of black metal is accepted. However, the angry and raw varieties are the ones to be focused on, especially those that aren't pure black metal, but rather blackened other forms. This is a place for ripping guitar riffs and demon-belched vocals, not synths and existentialism.

This is not a refuge for symphonic black metal, dark ambient, "blackened" metalcore, the Metallica song by the same name, or anything you've seen on MTV (well, aside of Goatwhore).

So spew your Satanic ramblings, this is the place for it.

I support anything named bone awl. In fact, if you name it bone awl, I'll buy it come cat treats myself.

Where does Mayhem and Wolves In The Throne Room fit in this thread?

I'm a huge fan of Blackened Thrash and need to look into more Black Metal in general as well as more Blackened Thrash of course. I'm a big fan of Abigail, Bewitched, Celtic Frost, and Sodom.

Skeletonwitch definitely fits in (mentioned in the OP!), they're blackened thrash (with tints of death metal). Darkthrone wouldn't have fit (seeing as it's 2nd wave) if it weren't for their newer material (specifically F.O.A.D. and Dark Thrones and Black Flags) which have a 1st wave/blackened crust sound to them.

My inquiry could go in the music recommendations thread, but where would I start with just Celtic Frost or Venom? Actually, any first wave black metal recommendations would be fine.

Have any of you guys heard the Lord Mantis album Spawning the Nephilim? I discovered them by searching through MA's database and I was wondering if it was worth a listen.
