'01-'10 was Ichiro (also Cameron in '01 and '03, Boone in '02-'04, Olerud in '02 and '03, and Beltre in '07 and '08)

The Gold Glove voters like the Mariners. Or at least they used to.
The last couple of Ichiro Gold Gloves weren't of the high caliber of his earlier ones, he was merely a name getting an award based on past success (kind of like Torii Hunter). That and this past year's roster didn't have any Mariners worthy of one.

Not that I disagree, but that directly contradicts your "playing for Seattle is why he didn't get any attention" blather.

It does. You're right, my bad.

The important part of my blather was that an every day position player who can't hit above the mendoza line shouldn't get an award, ever. It's like getting a trophy on "Everybody Gets A Trophy Day".

Ehh...when it's the one award that has nothing to do with hitting, yes he should. I mean, he still won't. I'm not gonna argue that. But the Gold Glove should have exactly **** all to do with hitting, just as the Silver Slugger should (and does) have **** all to do with fielding.

Perhaps. But Brendan Ryan wasn't fielding in a level that was "Elite". He was fielding at a good to very good level. When it comes down to a scenario where there are two players and one award, things like name recognition, batting, and/or wins your team got will play into breaking a tie. Brendan Ryan doesn't have any of those things and he wasn't Elite in fielding this season.

    The hell he wasn't!

The Rockies have named Walt Weiss as their new manager. He's on just a one-year deal, so no misconceptions there. Weiss' previous job was the head baseball coach at his son's high school (coincidentally, the same high school that Olympic swimmer Missy Franklin attends).

The three front-runners for free agent OF Josh Hamilton look to be Milwaukee, Baltimore, and....Seattle?!?

First Robin Ventura, now Walt Weiss. A bunch of my favorite players as a kid are now managers.

Now if Joey Cora and Terry Steinbach ever get managerial jobs, that'd be a sign of the apocalypse.

hiring an MLB manager whose only managing experiences comes from coaching high school baseball....that is insanity. plain and simple.

I'm still waiting on Bobby Higginson, personally.
