Question about this whole finalists deal: is it just a publicity thing, or is there now a select group of players up for a given award, and the writers are only allowed to vote for one of them and no one else? I hope it's just the former.

I felt the same way about Ventura last year. I imagine that most of the players I liked watching when I was younger would be better suited to coaching positions rather than full managerial duties, though.

Well, Cora's been in coaching positions for a few years already, and Steinbach might just have a shot due to the seeming tendency of catchers to become managers.

To apply said logic to old Tigers, though... who wants to rule out the possibility of Mickey Tettleton joining the coaching ranks before too long?

Whenever Eric Wedge gets fired (can't be too far in the future), I hope the Mariners offer the job to Dan Wilson.

Haha, I only just learned that the Mets decided to end Jason Bay's tenure with the team.

Yeah, on November 8th. I was in Brussels for the weekend, however, and hadn't kept up on any news.

In any case, Rookies of the Year were rather... obvious, I suppose. Trout clearly was the AL favorite, and I guess the writers just couldn't resist giving the award to a big name like Harper.

what a mess of a signing that was with Bay (though the Mets did sign him after that huge '09 year he had with the Sox). cant imagine him getting more than a minor league deal at this point.

dont mind the Harper pick, Trout was easy. the attention now will be whether he also gets MVP (which he should)

He won't be in an M's uniform. The Mariners were supposedly among the front runners for Prince Fielder last off season even though he never even considered them an option to play for. The same story will happen with Josh Hamilton.

Also, Milwaukee?!? What better place for a recovering alcoholic than the city of Milwaukee playing for a team named the Brewers.

I'm sorry, even though the Tigers laid an egg in the World Series, Cabrera gets the MVP. He is the best hitter on the planet, and he's been the bridesmaid far too many times. Trout will get tons of chances, I'm sure.
