Sorry, M's fans. I do hope a long-term deal gets worked out, though.

Also, the Marlins and Chone Figgins seems really fitting, in a way.

Sorry, nothing. Trust me, but for haggling over something like a paltry million or two, the deal is done. The Mariners FO never confirms anything until it's absolutely, 190 percent final. Maybe it won't be 7/175. Maybe instead of a seven-year deal starting now, it'll be a five-year deal starting when Felix's current contract expires (which is in 2 years).

Trust me, it's all but a done deal. Why else would he be sitting out of the WBC?

And the M's have also added Jon Garland. Looks like it's mainly a move to keep Blake Beavan from feeling complacent, and that can only be a good thing. And who knows, maybe Garland still has something. He has a nonzero chance of breaking camp with the club, to be sure.

Ah, okay, I had read that wrong.

Figlet just signed on with a team.

    A minor-league deal.

    With the Miami Marlins.

Is that not the most perfect(ly hilarious) resolution possible for him?

Though not as funny as him panhandling, it still is a fitting place for that P.O.S. to fleece money from. After all, it is in the opposite league from the M's and the opposite part of the country from Seattle.

And it's a minor-league contract! With that absolute joke of a franchise. It's practically Shakespearean in its perfection.

And before anyone pops a blood vessel, Felix's elbow is fine. He's one of the most durable pitchers in baseball. The Mariners just need to make quadruply sure their asses are covered before they hand him the largest contract for a pitcher in the history of baseball. It will be something akin to CC Sabathia's contract, where it contains language specifying monetary relief if a specific sort of injury is to occur.

Nothing to worry about. This is still going to happen. Both sides really want it to happen.

Not worried about King Felix's elbow at all, especially considering there are a lot of bigger issues with the Mariners (like pretty much everyone on the big league roster not named King Felix). More concerned about whether Morales and Morse can produce while in M's uniforms. Also cautious but hopeful that Ackley rebounds from last year's rather pedestrian numbers. Not to mention whether Montero can improve (and resemble that power hitter that the Mariners traded Pineda for).

Depending on the exact situation, the language will range anywhere from CC Sabathia's contract (where the Yankees can claw back some salary) to Magglio Ordonez's long-term deal with the Tigers years back (where they could claw back nearly all the salary and release him in the event of particularly adverse injuries).

And now the Mariners have also re-signed Felix's worthless older brother Moises (6.66 ERA, 1.88 WHIP in 32 games with AA Jackson last year). I support this transaction 110 percent. Whatever is needed to make Felix happy. If he needs to spend the spring with Moises, and make sure he's got a job, so freaking be it.

Before today, I did not know/could not recall:

    A. Felix Hernandez had an older brother who also pitches.
    B. Felix Hernandez had ever had elbow problems (which the GM is now saying was never an issue).
