I've been saying that for years. Legalize the drugs and tax the hell out of them. It would help cut down crime too.

Not all drugs. Stuff like cocaine, heroin and meth should never be legalized. Weed is no worse than cigarettes and thats why its ok to legalize it.

What if we sell coke and heroin but only for a ridiculous price that only millionaires can pay.

That wouldnt help at all. You need to make it cheap enough so people dont want to have to go to non-official ways of acquiring it while making it expensive enough to make a good enough profit on it.

First thing you'd probably want to do in terms of setting a regulated market for legalized narcotics would be to conduct a good public health study to figure out the long-term health effects and social costs of recreational use of narcotics of a regulated level of quality. At that point you'd be looking to tax them at least at a level necessary to compensate the public for any social costs that such drug use could inflict, as well as likely generating some revenue for public health programs (as many of the likely users could actually be benefited by that as well).

As far as what the likely prices would be, they'd have to be cheap enough to collapse the black market, but expensive enough to support the tax level requested as well as allow private manufacturers a reasonable market profit for engaging in the market. It's possible that certain controlled substances could be priced at a level where daily use may be even slightly less than what we typically charge for a pack of cigarettes today, but I don't have enough public health data available on hand at the moment to suggest specific prices right now.

$5 for a gram of weed (average, depends on what type you get) in Dutchyland. although the stuff here is a lot stronger than over there.

    only 18+ (obviously)

fun laws though. It's legal to sell it, but illegal to grow it.

Are there plans to stop selling it as well? I heard rumours from a friend who used to live there.

Some cities have put together some restrictions on selling, but I haven't heard of much traction on a national level for that.
