For me, It is still a game that challenges the user to hone his/her craft of actually learning or playing the guitar. You are still playing a song, you are still achieving a score, you are still unlocking achievements/guitars/pedals/tone effects/venues.
Yes, I agree it is targeted to a different audience. But a game like this hasn't existed before. RB3 Pro mode is the reason I started to learn how to play guitar in the first place. I pick up a guitar every day now to at least get a few minutes in each day. Learning an instrument takes dedication and I think a desire to improve.
I've quit on games before.. doesn't mean it wasn't a game.
there are times it feels like a chore. A lesson. A digital instructor. Then I suddenly realize, i'm doing better than i was yesterday and magically it becomes a game. And it's super fun. I'm shooting ducks, zombies, hitting baseballs out of the park, playing parts of cool songs. Getting better at guitar little by little. I'm picking up my guitar daily. I'm motivated to do better. I'm challenged. Certainly, there will be a lot of people out there that won't dig it. But anybody that has any kind of real desire to play guitar will be captivated by this little gem of a "game" if they give it a chance.
Scale Runner is pretty fun. How the heck did they think of that?
This game continues to impress with its ability to disguise practice as fun game play and trick me into learning stuff.
bold move posting spam the very next post after a moderator.....
I would love to see an addition to amp mode where you can simultaneously play mp3s from your PS3/360. Just let you play along, like Rock Band's Free Drum mode.
Any chance of this happening?
I found three e-tailers who pictured the Epiphone SG Special with pickguard, being Guitar Center, Musician's Friend and American Musical Supply. Sadly, the first two charge California sales tax. Due to an instant 10% discount on orders over a certain dollar amount, I could get it from Musician's friend with 3-5 day shipping at the normal price despite sales tax. I started to do that, first trying to cancel my Amazon order for the LP Special II, but Amazon informed me that it was too late to cancel. I ordered it at around 7 PM and tried to cancel 4 hours later, probably 12 hours or so before they'd actually get it shipped and it's too late to cancel. This is one of my pet peeves with Amazon--any attempt to cancel an order more than half an hour after placing it is likely to fail.

Yes I did which I way I made that post. These guys (some friends) thought it was a party game and bought it then stopped playing it all together. They got back to playing Dance Central. When I asked them why they told me what I actually posted. I'll pick it up myself eventually but this is the reality.

All you have to do is read any of the reviews to find out that it's more of a trainer than a game and definitely not a party game. There is no magic bullet for learning to play any instrument--it's going to be hard work (and in the case of guitar, initially physically painful). RS is a method for learning which takes some of the sting out of practicing by offering some amusing ways to do it.
