Yeah, I have no idea. I'm just glad it finally came through! My wife was out all last week, so I could probably have played untold hours then (which is another reason I was chomping at the bit), this week I'm crunching on work, and have so much less time, so I'll only get to play in small spurts.

Overall I'm pretty pumped about this game, it is so nice to be able to play with my own guitar even if I find the interface confusing.

I do notice lag though, I'm trying a few different set-ups... One is HDMI to TV, and Optical directly from the Xbox Slim to my receiver, the other is HDMI to the TV and headphones for audio (headphone jack coming from the TV out). Both of those make me feel as though I have a delay pedal on the stack, so I might try component cables to the audio to see if that helps at all. I have the "Game" mode on my 46" 1080p LCD on. Normally I just do HDMI for video and audio, but that's the explicit no-no on their charts, so I haven't even bothered to try that out.

My understanding from reading a few posts was that optical directly from the Xbox Slim (which has a direct optical out without any adapter) to the receiver should actually not pose too much lag (it was more the optical from the older xbox via the adapter that was the problem), but I've heard a few conflicting reports so am not really sure on it...

The rythm and chorus sections you may have 100% on while the solo you may only be at 50%.

The riff repeater really does need an endless option for all three modes rather than the 5 lives/trys thing. that's the biggest complaint, if you could call it that, that I have with the game.
I know... I have essentially taken to simply hitting Start -> Restart when I screw up. Was getting annoyed as heck last night at the intro to Plug-In Baby because I would pretty much hit everything dead on, just my bend may be a bit sloppy so it didn't register. They really need to patch that. You can get around it by hitting Start-> Restart but it is a pain.

You might try it. I am using an all HDMI setup and its fine.

Okay I got my Squier back from the music store after the professional set up. I does feel better. The strings just feel easier to manipulate.

Anyway, I set the difficulty to lowest and played Satisfaction.

I saw a lot of those yellow arrows indicating that I'm on the wrong fret and I scored a low 4,000. I tried again and scored 7,000.

I then switched to my Gibson SG and scored 17,000 and saw no yellow arrows.

Realizing that of course I'm going to score better each time I switched back to the Squier and while I played I noticed these strings are a lot thinner and I can change the pitch significantly just by varying the pressure of my fingers on the fret so I eased up on my grip and the yellow arrows lessened.

    That time I scored 28,000.

I then tried out the Baseball game. I did fine with that, yes you can bend. You can feel the separators on the frets, but you can bend over them. I do worry that it might not be good for them though.

I tried the Harmonic tech challenge and got a dismal 2,000, but that not that much worse than get on the Gibson. I haven't even got bronze yet on that challenge. I really suck at harmonics. I think it has more to do with the coordination required.

    So that's my report;

I think everyone who has a Squier would benefit from a Pro set up. Mine was $30 and I expect it will even improve my RB3 scores.

I think you could play RS with a Squier, but due to the thinner strings (9s) and a more flexible neck (you can even twist it a little) you'll need to consciously relax your grip while you play (maybe not a bad thing?). You'll probably get lower scores, but you'll still be learning to play and that's kind of the point. Ultimately though you'll probably want a nicer guitar.

I'm using exactly the same set up (with an Xbox) and I don't detect any appreciable audio lag. I should think that audio lag through HDMI would depend a lot on the receiver; it's possible that HDMI audio lag through television speakers is higher than when playing the audio through an AVR.

I think that there may be slightly more video lag in my system than their default 50 milliseconds, though not a a disabling amount--I haven't played with it yet. It's a shame that they didn't give us a means to calibrate it other than entering a number. It'd be cool if they could use the calibration sensors in an RB2/RB3 plastic Strat or the Mustang, or maybe Kinect and a mirror ; if nothing else, the play-a-note-when-you-see-the-flash method.

That's my set up and I have no problem with lag. HDMI to a Samsung in game mode.

Personally I am finding Rocksmith far more enjoyable than RB Pro Mode. The slow increase of musical notes by 5% per level up of the phrase, the ability to hear my own guitar, and simply the presentation of the guitar parts is sooo much better.
Glad to hear about #1 actually. I'm going to have to use that for these cases where things are hard to understand with their interface.

This might be controversial, but I'd like to say in advance that I'm just trying to understand where people are coming from on the RB vs. RS interfaces, so bear with me please

I've started to keep track of the folks who like the RS interface more than the RB3 interface on this forum, and many who have made that statement look as though they have not really played much pro guitar on RB at all, or play on the lower difficulty levels from their activity feed, or their goals. There are exceptions of course, it just feels like a trend. Would you agree that you haven't played that much in RB3? From your pro guitar goals it seems to be the case that you haven't really played most of the in-box songs (even on easy) - maybe just because you were completely turned off of the interface etc..

The reason I ask is I can buy that the RS interface might be better for folks who are just starting out, my beef with the interface is when it starts charting out more of the notes of the songs, or going into faster riffs... In those cases I believe the simpler RB3 interface wins out hands down.

The people that I've talked to (and who've posted here) who've played RB3 on the harder difficulties seem to trend more towards the RB3 interface as well. So I 'think' there is a pattern, although there are exceptions for sure, so this isn't 100%.

Now, that said, I am still learning the interface, so I haven't given up on it or anything, but I've got a strong feeling that it will be harder to get used to than the "Chord Numbering" option in RB - but I hope I'm wrong

Right after I got my Yammie home, I plugged it in, played Satisfaction and opened up the 'Ducks' game.
    Gave it a try...
Almost every time a red duck came up the third fret, I'd play it and it would tell me I was a fret low.
After a few trial-and-errors, I discovered that I was pushing down on the fret waaaaay too damn hard. After easing up, I didn't miss a note and jumped from about 14,000 the first couple of tries to about 215,000 easily.

I was pleased to learn that it wasn't the guitar that was $@&%ed up.

    But that meant....

    D'oh.

Not bad at all......more DLC please!!!!
Looks like it's number three behind Batman and Sims. And Sims is a PC expansion pack.

I expect PC sales to be significant for RS. I'll bet there are a lot of guys out there with guitars and no interest in buying a console waiting for the PC version.

As you're an obvious plant, I'll just pass on a word of advice....

Just look at the last 40 pages of this thread and you'll see that you're already preaching to the choir.

No need to try and sell us on something we've already discovered ourselves.
