It is indeed a low bar but I like it how it is. There was some other rhythm game, for iOS, and it had the same practice--->performance gameplay except the bar was ludicrously high. Was not fun. In RS the 'real' goals are 70k and 100k and thankfully they aren't mandatory for all songs in order for you to progress.
Good point about the 70K and 100K goals - it's nice to have a couple different things to strive for. It's cool that you aren't forced into moving on when you get the performance goal for a song (although the clunky menu system makes it a bit more annoying,) I usually go back and play it at least until I hit the 70K goal.
When I did the bend technique challenge it just said to bend in whichever direction you had the most room. You're just changing the pitch of the note by effectively tightening the string--the direction that you move the string to bend it shouldn't matter.
The challenge only involved a single notation--they didn't say anything about others.

As you continue on the "Journey" it takes a lot more to qualify for an event. I'm at around 6.5M RSP and I needed over 90,000 to qualify a song for an event. I think it actually dynamically assigns the qualification level needed based on your previous attempts at the song (and maybe even your overall ability). If you really rocked a song the first time you played it in an event, then you'll need a much better score to qualify the same song in a future event. Likewise, if it's a brand new song to you, the qualifying level will be lower.

Yeah, if you are new to guitar (like me), you wouldn't be having much fun if you could never qualify for an event. At first it would take ms several tries to qualify, I'd do the recommended Riff Repeater exercises and finally get in to do the event. Now I can usually qualify in the first try, but if I don't, I do all the recommended Riff exercises and get twice the needed points on the second play.
At this point I really only go after a Tone if it's one I really like. Then I'll buckle down and play the hell out of the song till I get it. Thus far I've only earned five tones.
It never occurred to me to be trying to max my level for each event The events themselves are pretty non-descript and I'd assumed that they'd just keep generating with random selections of songs as I leveled my skill. I mean I don't think I'll be battling my demonic agent at the end, but who knows.
That said, we do seem to be playing the same events in the same order with more or less the same songs. That kind of makes the notion of infinite randomly generated events doubtful. I do feel like my learning curve is beginning to steepen and I'll have to work harder to progress, but I have no idea what happens if I reach the end of the events without reaching a high skill level.
