it's weird they sound out an email saying there are 3 free songs, and don't tell you what they are.
Christmas songs are free.
☐ Alexisonfire ☐ Billy Talent ☐ Cake ☐ Cream ☐ ELO ☑ Heart ☐ Kinks
☐ Neil Young ☐ OLP ☐ Sex Pistols ☑ Sublime ☐ Supertramp ☐ ZZ Top
Great idea. However, i really suck at palm muting according to Rocksmith. I can't tell if I'm pressing too hard or too soft. Anyways, I'll be starting lessons soon, hopefully next week.
Say what you will about RB's pro mode, but in my case it finally got a guitar in my hands.

Who do I have to get drunk in order to get "Red Solo Cup" in Rock Band?
Yes, but they sent out a message about the Christmas songs when they were released on the 20th.
You can see the message that I received here. (There was some unrelated other stuff below that--a link to a "My Rocksmith Story" video, which you can see here).
EDIT: I just remembered that there was a "view this email in a web browser" link.

I hadn't tried that. That's probably it then. Strange that they'd send me a notice about the holiday song pack 3 weeks after it became available, and particularly strange that the announcement didn't mention what it was. (I checked the full header and it left its origin server seconds before I received it; the message also has a 2012 copyright notice at the bottom).
Whatever.

The most important thing is to remember that rocksmith considers it a 'hit' if it hears that note. So you could, in theory, cheat, by just playing the notes and not palm muting.
Since we're all playing to learn, however, you don't want to do that. But it'll help you learn what to 'listen' for when you play. If you press too hard, muffling the note completely, that's a miss. If your palm is too close to the fretboard, effectively changing the length of string that is 'ringing' by too much, then that's a miss too.
It should sound like the original note - just very very short, which makes the timing tough.
In what might a 'well duh' moment, my E string broke. (yay, string bends).
I got bored waiting for my strings to get here, so I used the high e from my squier.
Oh my god, was the intonation off. The 12th string fret/harmonic was almost a half step off. Is this why the squier's intonation was so bad? I tried fooling around, nothing was working. Finally I got my strings, and when I put the Ernie ball 10 on, intonation was perfect (or close enough).
I am stunned that it makes such a difference. I thought it was all about string length?
