It does. I think the default guitar I was using had no inlays. I switched to one with trapezoidal inlays and it definitely helped me. There are some with no inlays, some with dot inlays, some with trapezoids and at least one with a fleur-de-lis type inlay.

That's the only thing I can tell that makes a difference when you change in-game guitars.

I've always wondered what purpose unlocking in game guitars had. Until now, I always thought it was a silly waste of time on the developers part.

It still is a bit silly. If the inlays are the only thing you notice, they could have just a had a 'choose inlay style' option. For example, there are at least 5 in-game guitars with trapezoidal inlays, choosing one over the other makes no difference at all. Oh well, I guess it's something to make you feel good after completing an event (and to advertise for Gibson/Epiphone.) :P

I bought this back when it was released, but I still have yet to try it. At this point I figured it would be worth waiting until after the January patch to start the game.

The patch won't be until February. Personally, I don't see the reason you're waiting. It fine now. If you have a PS3 the real problems don't start until level 10. I'm only at level 3, so I'm not having a problem.

A little something called Rock Band 3 has been taking up all my time, especially after I discovered I was getting pretty good at the keys.

I thought the point of the guitar unlocks was for tone changes in the freestyle mode.

I use it. I'm not having any problems that I can say are due to the Squier so far. However, many others are having problems.
