the argument for 1$ over 2$ is exposure against income

if a 1$ song sells 1000 copies, it looks like it did awesome, but if a 2$ song sells 501 copies, it brought more money in.

for the labels like victory (who has the only 2$ songs release this week), or rise, or SoM, ect, 2$ is more enticing because they get more money.

for smaller bands, 1$ is enticing because they get more exposure.

    ect, ect...
We're all weavers at the loom of slaughter, but we will rise and make these victims our martyrs.

TAG? I'm it? what is this.

However, one could say that more exposure benefits in the long run if a consumer decides to take a (smaller) risk on the one dollar song and enjoys it, thus making it more likely for them to buy their work (on or off Rock Band) in the future. Although there's no information available on how much a consumer enjoyed the product enough to follow future ones, I would personally shoot for the long term goal rather than the short run victory of earning a bigger immediate profit.

Of course I have no data backing me up, but then again I'm just talking about my own opinions and stuff :3

This. When I originally decided to put Cheesy Pop Song on Rock Band, I was going to sell it for $2. But then, when I came around to actually agreeing on the terms and stuff, I still said $2. It didn't matter, though, because when it went up, to my surprise, it was priced at $1. I was literally shocked at how many views my YouTube, Bandcamp, and website got, especially considering how overconfident I was about how "good" the song was in the first place. So yes, in the short run, $2 is generally better, but what any band who isn't already famous needs is more exposure, and selling your song at the same price as leading artists isn't going to get you that exposure.
    meh

Honestly I wouldn't have bought it if it was $2. Same can be said for a lot of RBN tracks that I impulse bought.

On Thursday the first thing I look for is non metal songs for $1 and then if they have keys they get a listen.

Yep, off the top of my head, the A T O M, Hourcast and Surfer Blood songs I probably wouldn't have looked at if they had been 2 bucks. Instead I now own almost all of them AND went out and bought the albums they're from.

Personally I just like being able to say that I sold so and so amount of copies of my song, even if I didn't make that much from it.

Realistically I can be pretty confident in saying I probably would have had less than half of the buys if it was $2 so more money was probably made off of the $1 cost instead.

I'm surprised no one has gone with "free" yet.

Its not an option. Microsoft needs their cut.
I'm sure we would be getting a few free songs if it was an option.
