Naw it was alright, the best part by far was how subtly Fluttershy was written in. That was classic Fluttershy, so scared of Halloween that she won't leave her house and won't even give out candy to kids in scary costumes

Apparently, a lot of people did not like Luna's now official characterization because it does not jibe with their fanfic portrayals. It seems to do with her not being depowered, suicidally depressed and antisocial. Instead she's very powerful (can summon lightning storms at will and is strong enough to shatter stone), headstrong and confident, even if she is painfully awkward and out of touch with modern times.

Furthermore, they're already expressing denial and are rationalizing means to make the canon character line up with their interpretations, and even treating their fanfics as canon and insisting that this episode is "wrong" somehow. Someone on Equestria Daily said "I'm sure someone will make another story about Luna that fixes it, making all those fanfics canon again " How deluded can you get? Even in my fanfic days I never treated my stories as anything more than what they were.

I also never read anyone else's stories unless a friend asked me to. I didn't want my ideas formed by someone else's, and I get better inspiration from books, movies and TV.

Fanfics are not hard to write, either. As long as you have solid grammar, have a decent story idea, a good handle on the characters and a half-decent writing style, you're all set. Heck, the source material has done half the work for you since the characters and world are already set!
