Avenged Sevenfold Nightmare album review 1 year on

I just got tickets to see A7X and was thinking about there latest album and if its still as good as i remember it being 1 year ago
so hears a song by song review

Nightmare- Fantastic way to start the album, after some soft chimes we hear some amazing drum fills and from there on the song doesnt let up.....only complaint would be the punchine 'its your f******* nightmare is a bit clche for me 9/10

Welcome to the family- Awesome track, a waking the fallen style rum fill at the start and from there sounds very city of evil like .....very nice track 8.5/10

Danger line- Probably one of my least favorite tracks on the album, something for me doesnt click hear, its not a bad track but compared to the rest it doesnt fair up 5/10

Buried Alive- Well this is just amazing, very metallica like and i can hear a bit of rise the lightning and seek and destroy in this song everytime i hear it. just plain awesome 9/10

Natural Born Killer- Very underrated track in my opinion and i cant believe they dont play this song live!!! fast guitars and drums from start to finish, heavy as anything and defs one of my favorites off this album 9/10

So Far away- First time i heard this i didnt think to much of it but now i cant stop listening to it, so much emotion in it especially the last 2 minutes which nearly makes me cry everytime i listen to it 9/10

God hates us- Heavy as F***........easily the heaviest song on the album and another fantastic track and im very happy they play this song in there concerts because ill be moshing like crazy to this 9/10

Victim- Really nice track, not unbelievable but its a solid track and i still listen to this song very much today 7.5/10

Tonight the World Dies- Probs on par with Danger line as the worst track off the album, again its a good song but i dont think ive given it enough listens to really appreciate it as much as i should 5/10

Fiction- This song originally entitled Death was the last song The Rev recoreded before he passed away :'( so emotional and i still remember the first time i listened to this song and heard the revs voice i started crying....very good song 8/10

Save Me- What a way to end the album! a 10 minute epic that never gets boring in my opinion which is quite rare for me....awesome song to listen to and i defs rate this highly 8.5/10

All in all Nightmare is quite an amazing album...no dud tracks and if Danger Line or Tonight the World dies was on another normal album i would hav buffed there scores up by 2...but i have to critisise something....if u dont care for this then dont post on this please...just fans about the album/my review thanks

Nighmare : 9/10 (Only complaint is the xylophone **** at the start takes too long lol)

Welcome to the family : 9/10

    Danger Line : 8/10

Buried Alive : 12/10 (Like you said , its very Metallica-y and thats a very good thing) (Imo this is possibly the best song A7X has ever made to date , with its only real competition being "Second Heartbeat")

    Natural Born Killer : 9/10

So far away : 11/10 (Like you said , very emotional and to me thats a very good thing)

God hates us : 8/10 (Songs pretty good , don't much like the lyrics though)

Victim : 9/10 (The last 1 minute of the song is total bulls*** that I programmed itunes to skip at that point lol)

Tonight the world dies : 9/10

Fiction : 10/10 (This is essentially the Revs suicide note to the whole world , very touching)

Save Me : 8/10 (This kind of excessive length is not really cool w/ me unless its a Metallica-esque semi-ballad thing , but the song is pretty good anyway just minus points for being way too long for what it is maybe should have been turned into 2 seperate songs)

The only good song is "God Hates Us". The rest is forgettable like I find the rest of A7X's discography minus Waking The Fallen.

Weird. It took forever for me to warm up to the Nightmare album, but when I finally did, I can't stop listening to it. I'll go ahead and make a review myself

Nightmare- Definitely a great way to start the album. I love the heavy double bass at the beginning of the song. 8/10

    Welcome to the Family- 8/10

Danger Line- Starts off with a nice Military snare part and a good guitar solo. The lyrics are definitely chilling and I like how the song slows down- 9/10

Buried Alive- I like how the song starts but for the most part, the song drags too much 6/10

Natural Born Killer- Definitely goes hard and sounds very Waking the Fallen-esque and doesn't have too much of the corny City of Evil sound(I'm sorry, I can't stand the City of Evil)- 9/10

So Far Away- The most beautiful A7X there is. Very warming and when you think it's over the 12 string guitar solo starts which is heart melting. Sends a strong message 10/10

God Hates Us- I'm not really a fan of "Original Avenged Sevenfold". I DO like screaming metal, but I just don't like M Shadow's screaming voice from Sounding the Seventh Trumpet(though it improved in Waking the Fallen). It's too screachy for my taste, but this song is definitely an acception. I love the guitar riffs and M Shadow's screaming voice sounds good in this one. Gave me the nice thrashing feeling, definitely a great song to listen to at the gym when lifting weights or hitting the heavy bag? 9/10

Victim- AAAUGH... This song kept me from making the Nightmare album a "play through whole album w/o skipping a song". It just drags on too much and doesn't get exciting. 4/10

Tonight the World Dies- Same with Victim. It gets a higher score from me than Victim because it's a shorter song 5/10

Fiction- I'm sure it's already been said thousands of times, but upon losing The Rev, we lost a talented musician and song writer. He was definitely a lot more than "just a drummer." The only thing I don't understand is the nazal sound in his voice, but I love the transition from that voice to his powerful scream when he would shout the word "BUUUUUURRRNN!!!!!" Sends chills down my spine. Me being a piano player and growing up listening to great piano composers like Rachmaninoff and Chopin, this song definitely sticks to me- 9/10

Save Me- As amazing as a lot of the songs are in this album, this one is my favorite one. Not only it's my favorite Nightmare song, It's also my favorite Avenged Sevenfold song and definitely a top favorite song at the moment compared to other artists/bands. Avenged Sevenfold has shown to experiment with other genres of music; Hardcore Punk Rock (Streets), Death Metal (Sounding the Seventh Trumpet), Metalcore(Waking the Fallen) Hard Rock(City of Evil), Soft Rock(Seized the Day), Country(Dear God), Broadway musical style(A Little Piece of Heavan), Thrash Metal(God Hates Us), Piano Ballad (Fiction), etc. Save Me IMO has a very strong Dream Theater sound to it which is Progressive Metal. I'm pretty sure Mike Portnoy had a strong influence on this song. Either way, I'm a sucker for strong instrumentals and this is by far the best instrumental performance by Avenged Sevenfold and that definitely says a lot. If they released this song for Rock Band and charged 5 dollars for it, I'd still buy it. 12/10

Before the album came out, I was hoping to god that it wouldn't be a City of Evil 2.0 and they did a good job keeping it sounding new and not so City of Evil like. City of Evil is so overrated it's not even funny.

Honestly I don't like Nightmare that much it's better than their self titled but not as good as City Of Evil.

    Overall I'd give the album a 6 or 7 out of 10.

Nightmare (the single), to me, feels like they're falling back to their style when City Of Evil was released and I'm relieved that that's the case.
