I don't own a keyboard and never play keys, but I bought it for two reasons

1: to support my authoring company
2: to support sky pie because he's a member of the community

I can't speak for anyone else though (and frankly, there's probably VERY few people out there who buy songs with the same mentality as me). I buy lots of songs I either dislike or will never play for reasons like this. with how little time I have to actually play RB now, I tend to buy at least a song every week that I'll probably never play just to support something (whether it be TAG, random community members, less popular bands, or specific labels, ect)

And yes, PS3 songs do worse then on xbox, but they sell almost exactly half of what they sell on xbox, which would still be significantly higher then your estimate. it won't be an enormous amount, but songs have ported over with similar sales numbers to what wabi-sabi can be extrapolated to have in a couple months based on its first week sales.
We're all weavers at the loom of slaughter, but we will rise and make these victims our martyrs.

TAG? I'm it? what is this.

    Re: the Sky Pie discussion:

I'm often tempted to cite figures to people who are requesting various songs or artists. But I don't. They matter, but they're not everything.

You're right - based on sales on Xbox (which you can estimate from the leaderboards), Sky Pie isn't very likely to come across. Neither were quite a few other bands that we've already released to PS3. In fact, if we based it purely on the Xbox leaderboards, the 5/15/12 release should be:

Magnefora - "Für Elise (Beethoven)", Classical ($0.99)
    A Day to Remember - "2nd Sucks (2x Bass Pedal)", Rock ($1.99)
A Day to Remember - "All Signs Point to Lauderdale (2x Bass Pedal)", Rock ($1.99)
Asking Alexandria - "Hey There Mr. Brooks (RB3 version)", Metal ($1.99)
    Weebl's Stuff - "Amazing Horse", Novelty ($0.99)

"But Lachesis," you might say, "this goes against your normal preference of avoiding duplicate versions and 2x bass pedal. What if you skipped those like you usually do, but still took the top songs?"

In that case, we'd have the following genre distribution between now and July:

    5/15/2012 - 4 metal, 1 punk
    5/22/12 - 4 metal, 1 prog
    5/29/12 - 3 metal, 1 punk, 1 classical
    6/5/12 - 4 metal, 1 prog
    6/12/12 - 4 metal, 1 reggae/ska
    6/19/12 - 4 metal, 1 reggae/ska
    6/26/12 - 5 metal

...and then HMXHenry would come have a word with me about why our PS3 RBN fans wanted my head on a plate.

To sum up, your requests matter. And even if I look at Artist X's sales data and wince, I will remember that I can make someone's day on the PS3 and keep that artist in mind when I'm looking eight weeks down the line at our next PS3 release.

Requests aren't everything, of course. It would take a truly dedicated campaign to convince us to bring across, say, "Halftime" (my personal choice for Least Likely Song To Be Released on PS3). And we do consider sales, and genre balance, and a variety of other things I won't get into here.

But we will always keep in mind what you want. So if there's a song you really want to see on PS3, speak up. We're listening.

That's a bit Pollyanna. You can say that for every single song in the RBN. Or is that your entire point?

    Thoughtful post, though, thanks

    Those are fighting words!

Anyways, as I've said since it came out, If I were to choose one song from the entire catalog, it would be Felsen's "Self Medicate"

    The Halftime Drive to PS3

Well it seems Lachesis threw down the gauntlet in the PS3 song request thread.

Halftime, the brilliant Vuvuzela epic conceived by the immensely talented Freen in Green is almost unarguably the greatest song to grace the Rock Band Network with its presence, an amazing masterpiece that is decades before its time.

Lachesis herself must acknowledge its brilliance, as she herself wrote an elaborate emotional heart warming, tear jerking recommendation for the track in the Rock Band Network Highlights series, a series designed to showcase the best tracks the RBN has to offer. Not a surprising feat though, considering its worldwide acclaim from its appearance at the Golfing World Cup

Yet despite all this, it appears that this art will be withheld from us PS3 players indefinitely unless we can bring our support together. With only 5 songs a week, and more than that being released each week on XBox, Harmonix has the potential to hold the track forever and never release it on PS3.

Are we, the players, going to stand by idly and suffer this injustice? I say not! Let us come together and focus our efforts at the target. With enough effort, our will will prevail!

EDIT: Wow, that got moved fast. Sorry. Guess it does fit better in here.

Avoiding fighting words was why I didn't say "there's no way we'd ever do it."

But if you're going to rally people around a song, I'd suggest something that you actually want to play. Like anything else by Freen in Green.

All right, I will say that it seems I underestimated the keys-only crowd on the PS3, considering that every single one of the Thomas Walker songs has been brought over. I wasn't aware of that until I specifically checked. Surely, they would not be continuously brought over if they were doomed to poor sales.

And that's fantastic I'm certainly not part of that crowd and never will be, but I've never found more than about 3 to be my maximum of RBN songs I'm burning to get at any time, so it's ok

So how long until FiG makes an even more ridiculous song, titled "Anything Else", to get your literal endorsement? :P
