Didn't Jimmy Page specifically single out drums when saying that you can't learn anything from the game?

EDIT: Here, and everyone seems to be forgetting a later article in which he had better things to say.

Oddly, I do not get the same message about drums. Look at the 2 pieces of information...

Page added that he can't imagine that people are really learning anything significant about playing instruments by playing video games.
I bet at this stage he was not even aware of being able to play drums, or had even seen it. So his statement would probably be correct in that 5 button guitar you are not going to learn anything significant by playing video games. It's not even a direct quote but some kind of paraphase, so we do not know the exact wording or phrasing.

I get the the feeling that the interviewer then pointed out drums being used in Rock Band and got this..
"You think of the drum part that John Bonahm did on Led Zeppelin's first track on the first album, 'Good Times Bad Times'," he said. "How many drummers in the world can play that part, let alone on Christmas morning?"
Now this is why I think he was not aware of drums before the previous paraphrased comment, or even knew much about RB/GH. If he knew it had different difficulties then why would he have pointed out that people would not be able to play it on a Christmas morning? I get the feeling that he was protecting his music from the scenario of... Kid gets drumset and LZ:RB. Puts on 'Good Times Bad Times', starts to play. Fails because he cannot play it straight away (Expert, because lower levels do not exist) so the kid goes.. This is too hard, I now hate LZ music.

I imagine that those type of comments are made by every single artist who knows little to no knowledge of how RB is structured.

I think this shows that he doesn't think about anyone else playing those drum parts. He doesn't sound like he's giving a centimeter to the idea of someone else doing those drum parts. He said what he said about Christmas morning because it sounds like John Bonham might have right well been knackered. Not everyone shares every detail of how they think of music. Everyone is different. I can understand where Jimmy Page is coming from. From that point of view, there is a hell of a lot to think over and consider, artistically. To Page, everyone else might sound like the chorus of the song "Hysteria" by Muse directly on his ear. That could be a little more than annoying to him.

Everyone wants the main course but no one seems to want to take the special diet which leads up to fully enjoying the main course.

You can start by learning about the roots of Led Zeppelin and guitar music of the 18th-20th centuries. You better understand Elvis Presley, and Les Paul, just for starters. If you want to be schooled by Page, you are going to get schooled hard in music. If all you know is metal, I'm not sure you can really understand. How can you put these intangible things into a... "video game" ?

The Beatles were perfectly suited for this on the other hand, for where the game was at in 2009. The Beatles: Rock Band stands alone just fine and seems familiar to Rock Band 3 yet delivers a completely fresh and alternate experience. The great thing is, as everyone knows, truth is stranger than fiction, and the Beatles' familiar story makes great books, movies, and games. Oh, yeah, and at their core from the beginning, they were a hot rock band; the reason they were allowed to exist and expand, exponentially.
