Bass Overdrive sounds horrible in rock band 3

Back in the rock band 2 days, bass sounded so cool and powerful in overdrive with the special options, distortion was my favorite.

One of the first things I noticed about rock band 3 that it sounds horrible. Half the time, I don't even hear it in overdrive, and sometimes it makes the bass sound even lower.

I don't even notice a difference in the effects in most of the songs. I usually keep bass overdrive on chorus, because I don't even hear a difference with the other options.

Why would they down tone the bass overdrive is my question?

I will somewhat agree with this. To me, the bass sound in general is much flatter and sometimes borderline non-existent in RB3, whereas the same songs played in RB2 (without effects) sounded much richer and more robust.

That said, I was never a big fan of the various effects used on bass and always opted for normal while playing bass. Wah-wah and flanger were always very distracting and obnoxious, distortion sounded like crap and chorus didn't seem to have much effect. Now in RB3, they don't seem to have very strong effects at all and while I am ok with that, I do miss the distinctive sound of the bass in many songs when played in RB3.
    HMX is kickin' butt, but...

More Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and of course... RUSH!!!

As a drummer who wears high end studio headphones during gameplay, I would much appreciate it if everyone keeps their effects switches in the [OFF] position when playing online. Thank you.

really glad i'm not the only one who noticed this.

i've often found myself having to turn the background music way down just to hear the bass.

and this is an RB3 exclusive problem, as i played Lego Rock Band for kicks this past weekend and noticed that the bass was crystal clear, even outside of overdrive.
    what's up with that?

I'm not dictating anything, I'm just asking people not to do it. You still have the option to do it, it's just a request.

It's all good. Forums and text are the most often misinterpreted forms of communication when it comes to tone and attitude.

For me I solely use Distortion, because for me all it does is make the track louder. The rest I haven't tried.
