Thread: SNMT rbn dlc

What would be the point of that? :P

Seriously though, if RBN was around years ago, I would probably being doing something just like that. I'm way past my minimalism phase and can't seem to get back into that groove no matter how hard I try. It's still possible, with the next batch of songs that probably won't get published til 2013

I think that's cool that artist are pushing for EVERY kind of music into RBN. It's certainly not my cup of cake when coming to rock band (especially in terms of music experience; as for playability those songs are good from what I can see), but I used to listen to noise music like Lustmord, Boris, Merzbow, The Lotus Eaters, as background music. Your style it's really similar to merzbow, and I hope that your experience with non-conventional instruments will lead you to something more popular, like a collaboration or a movie soundtrack.

DUDE I love all of those bands/artists.

You're right though, Merzbow was one of my biggest influences on my sound today. You can definitely here the influence of Japanese noise like CCCC, Violent Onsen Geisha, Government Alpha, Hantarash, Gerogerigege, and Masonna in my work after 2005. I also take philosophical values from Dada and John Cage mostly.

My biggest dream is to make a an hour long epic that rivals Merzbow+Boris' Sun Baked Snow Cave. That will probably never happen because ... I'm poor. I'd love to do horror movie soundtracks though.

Hey I just wanted to say that I enjoyed Pon De Foir, not Sex so much. Listening, I mean, if you ever get over to the PS3 I will definitely buy whatever pops up.

I'm in the same boat, actually. PS3 owner here, too.

SEX was just an experiment in making a really really short song (30 seconds is the minimum on RB I believe) while still packing in as much content as possible. Plus, one of my pals said he wanted vocals. I can't sing, but I can shout out the same word over and over again. :P

Out of curiosity, what would you like? Why do you prefer PDF over SEX?

Ultimately, I want to make songs that are challenging enough, unique enough, and yet still edifying. My next album is 93 songs long, so I have 93 chances to make something I really enjoy but also resonance with players.

What I'd like? This may sound corny, but I'd like whatever YOU as the artist wants to put out. I buy SNMT stuff because of the experience playing this unique art style (music? I don't know. A lot of noise artists hate being called musicians. I don't want to offend). If I wanted music made just to be challenging or just to be fun in-game, I'd buy Chaotrope songs. I'm not buying SNMT because it's fun or challenging (if it is, that's just an added bonus). I'm buying it because it's completely unique. I'd rather you make the art you want to make, without any thought as to whether or not it's a "good fit" for RB, because frankly, none of your songs are a good fit for RB, and that's EXACTLY what I love about them.

I prefer the sound of Pon De Foir, but put anything you want in the game, maybe you can pass up The Beatles for most songs, then you have a big claim to fame whether people like the music or not.

I would actually consider dashing out money for the first time since a long time for this game if you tried replicating atmospheric noise/death industrial like Genocide Organ, Atrax Morgue, or Rasthof Dachau.

    _ Kamelot
    _ Pure Reason Revolution
    _ VNV Nation

I love Genocide Organ. I've teetered on the edge on having songs similar like those before, but I've been getting less and less atmospheric and industrial as time goes on it seems. I'll try to come up with something that may satisfy your need for that style. Can't promise anything though.

    These things just happen. :\

It will be unique, trust me. It will be my style. I come here not asking SNMT purchasers how I should make noise, but instead to get a feel for what direction I should go next.

It helps to have some ideas in mind when making these. If I don't get some input, or go out and listen to others' music I can feel pretty stale.
