This isn't a reply to the HS-03 Mic question, just a comment about rockbandparts.com referenced in your message. They closed the thread on "Don't buy from rockbandparts.com" but it's still true, you don't want to buy from them. I'm poorer and wiser for dealing with them this week.

I have that headset. It's not bad, but it's a lot smaller than the pictures imply. I'm not that big of a guy, about 5'9". The "hooks" sit above my ears while the microphone presses against my cheek. Also, I have had trouble with occasionally "losing" the microphone. My voice will suddenly sound very tinny, and the game will register a miss. This lasts for maybe a second or two, then all is normal again. This could just be an issue with my specific headset, however.

On the good side, the set does come with an extremely long cable, however, and the microphone actually plugs into the USB dongle, suggesting you could use that dongle for another microphone if you were so inclined. Overall, I'm happy enough with it for occasional voxtarring and voxkeying. It's not perfect, but I don't really expect perfection from a $50 microphone.

And yeah, there has been a lot of drama associated with rockbandparts.com. It's been a while, but I think I bought mine from a third-party through Amazon. Amazon still lists it.

It's all right. Everything will work out fine.
It's all right. We're going to the end of the line!
