There's a discussion going on here about how we could have handled this announcement better, if you'd like to contribute. (I admit it might have made more sense here, but I don't want to move the existing conversation over - that will just confuse people.)

I really can't think of anything else in addition to what others have been guessing.

Also, I really don't think it's RBN1.0 songs, since they've made it quite clear they won't be ported over anymore.

I'd like to think it's something more random than these guesses. I know I'll be having a lot of fun speculating for the next two weeks!

Needless to say, I would much rather just have a bigger selection of songs and not be concerned with any separate double bass versions, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

    1) Big batch of RBN songs. (Sony may moan?)
    2) RBN1.0 songs released on disc. (Cost of release probably too much)
    3) Larger weekly RBN releases (Already told not happening)
    4) 2x Bass pedal songs (Nothing is stopping this already)
    5) RBN authoring tools on PS3 (Almost a certain no go)
    6) RBN Play Testing. (Maybe XNA 30 day thingy limits this? Or is that only on selling?)
    7) RBN Demo play. (This could happen with a patch, so you play the first x seconds. Not like the 360, but better than nothing!)

Not sure anyone mentioned 7 yet. But I guess that would make a lot of PS3 players stoked
I think the problem was that the announcement was so From Out of Nowhere

Wait, so you were expecting them to either stop the RBN2 pipeline in order to start up the RBN1 pipeline again, or you expected them to spend the extra time and money to setup a separate pipeline to pipe over RBN songs that didn't sell well on the 360. Or perhaps they already had them done and simply were going to release all of them on Tuesday.

Seriously, if you've ever listened to a thing HMX has ever said, you'd know that RBN1 is done for the PS3, let alone expecting RBN1 and RBN2 at the same time.

This is exactly what HMXLachesis said about folks overreacting. Sure, 2X bass isn't a big deal for most of us, but it didn't hurt anyone to have, and it certainly was something special.
