I stand by my statement that the way double bass is implemented in Rock Band is a hack job and is tremendously confusing for the average user.
Maybe because it is such a minor feature, and you consider it a hack job, Harmonix should just tell the RBN authors to do away with 2X and conform to the original authoring standards that Harmonix uses, since it never really was Harmonix intent to chart it to begin with.

You might think that might solution is expensive, but it's far less expensive for everyone else and only affects the people that truly have an interest, and as far as inelegant, I haven't seen you offer a more elegant solution that impacts other people far less.

And for someone who doesn't really care, why are you posting in this thread at all, save to argue with me?

For that matter, neither does Rock Band 3. If it was programmed for double bass in the first place, there'd be no need for upgrades or different versions.

And maybe they should have until they found a more streamlined solution, instead of creating this messy system of incompatible versions being sold of the exact same song (see: RB3 versions as well).

They could have held off and engineered double bass into a future revision of Rock Band (maybe RB4) as an optional mode, much like Pro Guitar, and offered the upgrade in a similar fashion. Instead they took the band-aid solution for RBN, which basically locks them out of finding a clean solution in the future.

Because as someone who likes buying DLC, it annoys me when Harmonix introduces things which split the user base (incompatible pro upgrades, RB3 versions, 2X bass pedal versions)?

Last time I checked, this thread was titled "For PS3 Players", and I'm pretty sure I qualify on that count.

The 5-tracks-a-week limit on PS3 was explained when the first batch of RBN songs were released to PSN. The limitation seemed to be on the PSN side. John Drake stated, "We're working hard to expand the number of songs we'll be able to do each week...", but since this was over a year ago, it would seem that all that hard work came to naught.

    Please excuse a comment from a non-PS3-using, non-drummer; I'm unsure why I read through this thread .

Hey Mikey! No problem man. At least you quoted something relevant. Here's the actual press release dated July 17, 2009 http://www.rockband.com/press/rbn, where it also explains that they expected only 5-10 tracks a week to be released from the RBN. I'm sure that PSN limited to 5 tracks a week was a multitude of factors, including the cost of those tracks passing certification in each store, as well as the costs of the placement of the tracks, the time and cost need by Harmonix to port, as well as the console manufacturers not wanting to flood their stores with content. The amount of content that is on each console's store placed there by Harmonix, far exceeds what any other franchise (yes I said franchise) has ever placed in a console store. And since it's the consoles that run the store, it's their say as to how much and when stuff get's placed and removed.

And actually, truth be told, the Rock Band Network, only exists on the XBOX console. The PS3 only gets songs ported over from it. I think that's a better way of looking at it.

It's so much fun for drummers and I can't understand why they won't port RBN songs with double bass to the PS3, only the non DB versions. I don't think it would be a huge travesty if HMX were to chart Expert with X2 Bass Pedal, make Hard WITHOUT X2 double bass, medium becomes hard, and easy becomes medium, and if you still play "easy" turn on no fail mode cause either you don't have legs or you are a kid to where you have it on anyways."

I think achievements earned in Rock Band are a little more useful than most of those from other games because Rock Band can actually begin to teach you how to play the songs in real life, at least if the song doesn't contain double bass.

If I was used to playing all but the last tier on Expert, then had to switch to MEDIUM to pass a song, I'd assume chart was broken. Same with playing on Hard and noticing an insane difficulty spike in certain songs (some of which are only a 5 or even lower). I'd just assume incompetent authors and lazy playtesters at work, and I'm far more patient than most people in judging the RBN as a whole. Not everybody reads the forums and would know what the difficulties really mean on what songs. What about the people who play with Breakneck Speed and can't play on Hard because it scrolls too slow?

But I'm sure Harmonix will listen to anyone who insults the people who play on Easy. And the people who play on Medium but need to turn it down for the hardest songs in the game. Not everybody has been playing this game for four years.

EDIT: Oh, and hi-hat pedal, two hands on keys, bends and stuff on guitar, &c.

Then, why exactly did you state that the achievements were false because they didn't contain double bass? What double speak is this?

Did you know they actually use simulators to train professionals? Flight sim and driving sims. Why aren't their achievements valid, because they are teaching you how to react to situations in real life? Even some combat simulators (also known as FPS in game form) are used to train people to get them ready for live fire situations without putting them directly in danger.

And those Sesame Street games and teaching games for toddlers and children are things they can use later in life...........
