To add a bit to that, I also prefer more upbeat/heavier(though not thrash/death/ etc. metal) stuff. But I do love a VAST variety of things, so I'm not opposed to giving stuff a try. Songs like Bittersweet Symphony is also some of my favorite stuff.

And then those Guitar Hero songs stay in Guitar Hero, separate from what is probably a larger personal Rock Band library, and in a game that is no longer expanding. What's your point? I never said it was cheaper to wait for Rock Band. I said don't spend the money on Guitar Hero for the above reasons.

For the DLC, rather than pay $20 for Guitar Hero 5 and $2 for Drive or Fireflies, I can pay just the $2 and get harmonies, better vocals and drums, keys on Fireflies, and the songs would be in the game that I play every week, in a constantly growing library of over 1200 songs, more than the entire Guitar Hero series.
gamestop pricing (for the 360) is as follows - and remember, gamestop usually has strangely high prices due to being a monopoly. and if you buy during a B2G1 sale, you basically get them at dirt cheap.
GHII - $1.99
GHIII - $1.99
GH:WT - $4.99
GH5 - $12.99
GH:A - $4.99
GH:M - $14.99
GH:VH - $12.99
GH:SH - $8.99
BH - $12.99
GH:WoR - $9.99
even new most of them are under $15. I don't know where you guys are getting prices from, but I'm done arguing with fanboys.
and for the record, we will likely NEVER get all of the songs from GH, and I guarantee, we never get all the songs I like from GH.

I own Guitar Hero II and III and haven't played them in years.
"Drive" for Rock Band 3 - $2
"Drive" for Guitar Hero World Tour - $6
"Fireflies" for Rock Band 3 - $2
"Fireflies" for Guitar Hero 5 - $15
And that ignores the fact that if I buy it for Guitar Hero I'll likely play it once and go back to Rock Band, while if I buy it for Rock Band it'll be in my library for the foreseeable future. It's not just being too "lazy" to swap discs (though if I do so for just one song I'll spend more time loading than playing that song); often I don't think to play certain songs until I scroll past them in my library, whether it's something that came out a few weeks ago, or a song from Rock Band 1. For that reason alone I'd get more use out of a Rock Band song than a Guitar Hero song, on top of the obvious RB3 features.
