October 2011 Rock Band Network Announcement thread

For those not in the know a group of authors have decided to do a once a month (final friday of every month) announcement thread. Highlighting new artists coming to the service, contests, video game play debuts, and who knows what else! So for the rest of the day this thread will be the home of the latest and greatest news concerning Rock Band Network! So keep checking back during the day because who knows what might be happening during the next 16 hours.

First up we're pleased to announce a band that will help bring a genre to the game that has been pretty neglected over the years. Sure there's been a few here and there, but overall there's not much representation from the genre.

I'm talking about Ska of course.

We're proud to bring Sunny Side up and their big horn ska music into Rock Band Network!

Starting with Welcome to the Skalocaust :

We'll also be bringing Corporate Control :

    and She's Rad :

We'll have more announcements during the day and other authors will be posting their news as well so stay tuned!

You guys should make a rule that month announcements can only reveal things that are likely to come out in the following month. That'd be interesting.

EDIT: That being said, I am a fan of the first announcement, solely based on listening to the first song, reading its title, and seeing the album artwork.

That's idiotic. Every song takes a different amount of time to come out, and any song that would likely come out next month would have been in playtesting by that point, thus already public knowledge.

The problem is we can see things in playtesting. Most interesting things will be revealed to the community long before they can get through review.

Hey guys, Kevin from ASP here.

Alt-Strum is happy to announce that we'll be bringing two tracks by Swedish trance metal act, Escape the Day.
The two songs we'll be bringing are a re-record of their first single "Turn Back Time", and a new track, "As We Were Once", off their upcoming EP.

Here's something a bit different we're going to do.

A lot of people have wondered and asked us "Have you ever worked on songs that for one reason or another didn't get released?"

Boy have we ever. For one reason or another some songs just get killed before ever seeing the light of day.

So with that I present to you the TAG Graveyard (kind of apt for a halloween weekend thread).

These are the songs that we worked on and at some point in their development they got nixed. So here's a look at what COULD have been. We won't get into details of why and how come, because it's not relevant. Again these songs have been 'killed' and WON'T be released.

Now most of these are VERY early and never got past the initial building process so they're going to be full of errors and ugly, but we figured you might like a look at what might have been.

First up is a song I was VERY sad to see fall apart. What's not to love about pirate/goblin metal?

Are You the Killer by Ahimsa Sunrise :

Left For Dead by The Worshyp :

We'll have part two of the TAG graveyard up later today.

That won't be the only underutilized genre getting some love today. Though we're gonna have to wait 'til later today to announce it so I can make sure all the switch-flipping is done right.

In the meantime, we can start talking about one new project. Blues-Rock may not be an underutilized genre, but it's a nice one nonetheless.

    ----

Jeremy Manjorin started off like a lot of part-time musicians, constantly being pulled away by real life. He made the best of it, steadily putting away bits and pieces and letting his sound mature. A writer by trade, he couldn't help but write songs as well, with a hard-hitting country/blues/rock blend- the next stage of the all-American Jersey boy sound.

"Skinny Seventeen" has its share of country sounds- the steel pedal guitar, for example- but is pretty much a rock tune, a look at adolescence from the outside in. We'll be doing a little experiment with the track, putting that harmonica to good use and giving keys players something interesting to work with.

We'll have some videos a little later, for some songs already in playtest and some coming up very soon. And we'll have the big band I teased on Twitter- though I'll remind everyone, "big band" can mean a lot of different things...

Yes, yes and yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss! Can't wait for these.

So glad it's the last Friday of the month. We need an official name for it, and I'm too tired to think something up. Final Friday? Omega Day? Network Free Info Fries-Day?
5+ years, 4,000+ songs, 1 awesome developer. Thank you!

    Hey guys,

It's Ozone here with an update on the shenanigans we have going on for the Rock Band Network.

As you know, Pac-Man Fever Set 2 is almost here. The remaining four tracks from Pac-Man Fever will be available next month, along with a bonus song "Found Me the Bomb" we did for our friends at GiantBomb.com. I'm pleased to let you know two of the songs are finished and passed (and if you're a jerk, you can grab a copy early). But if you're cool, you'll wait for all fives tracks to hit the store next month. To whet your appetite, here's Full Gameplay videos of "The Defender" and "Goin' Berzerk", showing the finalized tracks in their entirety.

    "The Defender": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWLJB67iuxE
    "Goin' Berzerk": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvyn4jS-jgI

But that's stuff you already know about. What has Ozone done for you lately? Well, you may remember we announced the insane "Console War" song by DRUOX a while ago, from the popular internet series "Sanity Not Included". Here's a video if you forgot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wD-x8ot67zI.

Well, we thought what's better than one song from the "Sanity Not Included" soundtrack? How about releasing TWO! DRUOX worked with us to record a brand new version of his popular song "Ode to Stove" exclusively for the Rock Band Network. Why the new recording? Well, the original has quite a bit of cursing in it, and rather than butchering the original we just had him change those words to T for Teen - friendly ones. Want a taste? Here you go:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChnNUX0tHx8

"Console War" and "Ode to Stove" are coming your way after the release of Pac-Man Fever Set 2, and both are stupidly fun and will cost $0.99 each. Stay tuned for Full Gameplay videos of the rest of the Set and other surprises we have up our sleeves. What, I hope you didn't think I'd give away all my secrets.
