    On-line etiquette

When playing online with random band members should you play at your comfortable skill level (you can usually perform at 95%+ and earn 5 stars) or should you go to your stretch level and rely on band members to save you? I sometimes see people switching difficulty on different songs. What is the best way to do that?

I am new at pro drums and I can do most songs at hard (1-4 difficulty) but most of those nightmare songs can waste me on expert. When I play online I see a variety of instruments and skill levels being used. Some people can gold star just about any song on expert and others struggle at medium.

Also, sometimes people drop after selecting songs (irritating).

Lastly, I am rocking on the Wii and there is no integrated voice or text chat. When selecting songs, what is the polite process? How many to choose? I usually wait for 1 or 2 people to pick a song, and then I put one in. Sometimes the set lists get longer than I would like to play (12 or more!).

Regardless, it is usually great run to play online. Thanks to everyone for playing!
For those about to rock, we salute you.

Unfortunately, there is no real online etiquette. Sometimes you get lucky, but for the most part, people do what they want without regard for other players.

To me, song selection should be one song per player, per setlist. I don't have any issues with everyone playing at the level they feel most comfortable... That just makes sense. The other thing that matters is having DLC in common.

    Good luck.

I'm on a ps3, and play drums from hard to expert. I'm one of those people who has to change difficulty between songs sometimes.

I don't know if this applys to the wii, but when playing a setlist, if you need to change difficulty, do so right after you play a song. As soon as the scores pop up, hit your pop up menu, hit change difficulty, then hit the level you want to play for the next song. You need to be quick though. If you're the band host, its not a deal, as you can decide how long the breaks are between songs, if not, you're at the mercy of whom ever is. Hopefully they allow a a little bit of a breathing interval between songs, so you have a second or two to switch.

If you are host, you can change difficulty during a song. Just be sure to restart the song, or you will get a no score for that song (try to limit this as it will frustrate other players to restart a song, if they've been nailing their part ) Oh, and play at the level that makes you most comfortable. If someone doesn't like it, they'll leave, and that's ok too. Hope this helps.

With the ever decreasing chance of matching DLC, the strange tendency of most people not to even have the RB1&2 songs, and the ease of dropping out whenever, online with randoms has disintegrated into pretty much nothing. It was the main thing I did in RB2, but now I don't play online at all except with my usual partners in crime.
If these walls could talk, the stories they'd tell,
and if they did, there'd be a whole lot of hell.

There has been many, uh...creative ways of keeping players apart this time around. Fingers crossed for next time.

All in all, there IS etiquette... people just don't care. Look at people driving, or walking in a busy place. They know they should look at the world around them and mind themselves, but they don't. Same with online.

All you can really do is your part

While I will agree that online play can be frustrating at times, and some players are rude, I contend that it's still enjoyable and much more rewarding to play online, than alone.

I have found that most of the randoms I play are thoughtful, and do follow basic etiquette.
We generally take turns choosing songs, and play 1 or 2 setlists even when someone has no dlc, or struggles keeping up.

Maybe I've just been lucky... but I play darn near everyday at varying times of day or night, and it's just not a huge issue for me. I do feel bad for those who have had sucky experiences with online play though... this game should be fun for everybody.

Was a mixed bag with RB3. But I haven't played in about 7 months so it's not a high concern for now, but a concern for the future if the next game gets me playing again.

Played with a RB2 person the other night...moar metalz, no DLC checking. Not good etiquette for having a singer (boring). Used to be more mixed in experience when there was more players of course. Now just kinda stuck with who you get.... IF you get somebody there.

Usually when online with two or more others. I pick only one song, if it's only me and one other player, I prefer to choose 2 each and play from there. I almost never delete the other persons song unless it something I am absolutely tired of playing online (Whip It) Usually never leave unless there is absolutely no DLC and we are stuck with the on-disc songs.
