That's a possibility, but I feel that this has been brewing since the regular season, but it's really just been media buildup of a rivalry (partially fed by the players and coaches, undoubtedly) and not things that have happened either in-game or in a prior game. I'd contrast this with, say, this game last year, which, while being a bit overboard at parts on both sides, was purely a result of what had happened in the last game and a (generally-speaking) good example of when and why to fight, plus some really good fights.

). My only argument to your assessment would be that it's philly's power play and penalty killing teamwork that's driving the games. No doubt that some of he goal tending has been a bit lackluster, but the fighting from my perspective has been out of Pittsburgh's frustration and inability to stop the flyers "special teams" play. Of course after a while, Philly was going to respond to the aggressive play from Pitt...but there were a couple of fights that did belong in a school playground.
