Actually it occurs to me (and perhaps to others too, haven't scanned this whole thread) that a point reward for bands making it from the wish list to the official DLC is a bad idea.

It would encourage people to vote on most likely candidates (bands at the top of the stack that aren't Led Zepelin and Pink Floyd et al) and stilt the whole process because people will be backing the likeliest horse to win the race and not bands they truly wish to see make it into DLC.

Again, it seems pretty much a no brainer so if it's been mentioned in this thread already then let's just say I agree.

I dont know, I would think this would only be a problem if there was some incentive to have points in and of themselves. It doesn't make sense to try and stack the deck in your favor by loading your points into highly ranked bands that you dont necessarily like in order to get more points (if being highly ranked is even an indicator of dlc likelihood at all) just to put them into highly ranked bands that you don't necessarily like.

That's why I made this post. It's fair and gives an incentive for being active which benefits hmx.

Wonder if you guys can program it so that if you check it X amount of days(let's say 10 because we don't want points going up too crazy), then you get a point.

So for every 10 days you log in, you get a point to put to your favorite band(s). This would keep people active on it(hopefully) and be a fair system as everyone has the opportunity to get bonus points without the randomness of guessing right.

If you are afraid of 10 days being too many between points, make it 5 maybe.

Or you could do a system where everyday you use it you get a point above 10 up to say 20 or 25. Each day you don't use it you fall back towards 10(never lower).

This would make sure people are checking it daily.
The last few lines I think are the best version.

All the points/days are flexible. I just wanted to put the framework in the post.

The problem with giving people points when an artist on their list gets a release is that it skews the results... Anyone who has taken a high school stats course could tell you that. The list loses its authenticity as a truly global list because some people have more of a voice than others. That'd be like taking a survey and counting someone's response twice in your data.

I think the fairest thing to do is not give out any points at all... If you give out points on a regular basis, then that also introduces a skewing in your data, at least for the all time list. What's to say that everyone who uses the app will use their additional points? Slim to none.

I suggest that you keep the all time list and not give out additional points.. People can change their list based on what DLC has been released. That is the fairest and most statistically accurate way to do it.

But you need a reason to get people to use it regularly. Not giving any points will cause most people to set it and forget it. If you give out points for regular use you are encouraging people to be active and allowing everyone an equal opportunity to get more points.

And to keep it somewhat in check you limit to point cap and implement point drain for people who become inactive.

I think awarding a single point rather than 5 will reward folks for participating, while not encouraging point chasing.

Now you're treating it like it's something scientific. It's not, it's a fan poll to drum up interest in Rock Band and give HMX another tool to help show artists who's wanted in Rock Band. Making it a game or interactive on some level beyond just a list of your favorite bands would help.
