Don't know much about fighting games. played Tekken once and it was fun. Then i've played Street Fighter. I do own the newest Mortal Kombat, and it is amazing.
A fighting game that IS coming out March 13th is Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations. It contains characters as they are young and older, so it's that kind of game, and for fans. It's always a very fun engine as well, with 3D fighting and it's also very fast paced. The graphics are amazing as well for an 'anime' game. Can't really complain, being the 3rd game for PS3, much of the little mistakes should be fixed.

So, whoever said they wanted to start a more dedicated SC5 thread, I'm ready to join in on that! I've played arcade mode a few times with Siegfried and my custom character based on Siegfried. I guess I'd better learn Patroklos too if I'm going to do story mode and unlock more stuff.

And, I have yet to win a match against the AI on hard difficulty (I've won a round or two but never the whole match.) It's pretty good at not letting you get back up once you're down. I get hit once and by the time I'm on my feet again 1/3 to 1/2 of my health bar is already gone. The AI rarely lands a hit on me that isn't a "counter' either - I move in, initiate an attack, and whatever I do the AI does something faster and knocks me down. That I can never get my critical and brave edge attacks to deploy in the heat of battle when I really need them certainly doesn't help matters. Maybe I'd better do easy for a while just to get better at doing the moves I mean to do.
If these walls could talk, the stories they'd tell,
and if they did, there'd be a whole lot of hell.

So.... I entered a global colleseo tournament and won 2 and lost 7. I would have won three if this one British guy hadn't ragequit on me.

That was me! Though I don't think there are enough members here who are interested in SC5 to warrant an official thread.

You don't really need to learn Patroklos for story mode (though he's a great character to learn!). It's pretty simple and you should be able to fly through it in a couple hours. Maybe learn a few moves, but knowing that should be enough.

As for the Hard AI: Yeah, it can be a real punk. Just wait until you try beating harada TEKKEN in Quick Battle. That character spams soooo hard. I took about 25 tries to get past him, and I ended up using Ezio and his low kick to win.

I did find going into training mode to be helpful. Especially when you record a few moves for the opponent to do, so you can just get used to attacking/blocking/countering/stepping/etc. Also, if you haven't gone here yet, 8wayrun.com is a great site for anything Soul Calibur. The forums are full of SC5 pros along with competitive players, so you can learn a ton of stuff. It has frame lists, various combos to use, and a quick unlock guide. The frame data is the key to unlocking all those moves that seem to be too slow.

For my time so far, I'm pretty comfortable with Tira now. I know a few combos and can block/step decently. I have a terrible online record, and find that Tira isn't that great of a character to use when there's even a little bit of latency. Well that and I'm never going to be great at this game. But I'll hit you up soon so we can play! Hopefully Gowie is on as well and we can get all 3 of us into arena to go back and forth.

I'm looking forward to grabbing an arcade stick tomorrow from Gamestop (if it's still in stock). I've been thinking about picking a cheap one up for UMvC3 since I have a hard time keeping cardinal directions correct on a gamepad, and some moves are a PITA to do on a controller (damn Nicky Wright and his second evidence slot). I came across a recommendation for a WWE-edition stick on clearance for about $30 earlier today, and reserved that immediately. I just hope they weren't sold out within the past couple days and never updated...

Oh, speaking of updates, people looking for some quirky fighter may want to keep an eye out for My Little Pony: Fighting Is Magic. It-

...Yes, it's real. It's being developed by a small group of indie programmers/fighter enthusiasts in the vein of the show, and it's looking pretty good so far. The game won't be out for a while, most likely, since the group is creating the game in their free time for no money (not even donations), but it looks like it'll be really tight once released. The latest dev stream can be watched here. The plan is to have the main six characters available at release, with frequent updates adding at least another 11 more characters to the roster.

From the discussion I've read on the game, it seems that Fighting Is Magic will be most akin to Super Street Fighter games (pre-SF4). Aside from the sprite-based aesthetics, it will feature both super gauges and magic gauges to unlock special moves, the former gained by dealing and taking damage, and the latter by performing specific moves successfully a certain number of times. There most likely will not be some of the super-complicated stuff found in games like BlazBlue or Guilty Gear(?), and will generally not be as combo-centric as games like MarXCap3.

AND there's been word that, if built in time, the game will be featured at EVO 2012. Whether purely showcased, or be part of the competitions is unknown.

I was saving this post until I was sure, but it's been confirmed Persona 4: Arena will be coming to the states on consoles sometime this summer (I believe August is the speculated month.)

The entire P4 cast is confirmed as well as some fighters from P3: Mitsuru, Akihiko, and Aigis so far.

There's also a brand new character: Labrys
(Looks like Aigis, [and possibly Metis] will have to share the 'female android spotlight')

    And here's some character gameplay.

When I first heard about it (alongside the news of a P4 anime and P4 the Golden on Vita) I wasn't sure this would see a localization, but now I have a reason to celebrate.

I don't know how many other Persona fans are on this board aside from Cipher and Lowlander, but I hope the rest of you guys will consider it. I'd love to play against ya sometime.

I've been looking forward to P4A's release for a while now, personally... then again, as a fan of both the Persona series and Arc System Works, this is just too cool.
