The new Saint Vitus album is set for late April, it's really awesome that these guys are recording new material for the first time in 17 years.

    whoa, that's awesome.

Also, this new record by The Men is pretty insanley good. Influences all over the place, sounds to me like Bad Sports, Gene Clark, and Cave at different times yet it all works together.

    Some quick observations:

The Hogarth/Barbieri collaboration turned out pretty well. I'm actually kinda surprised by it. Relatively varied output as well, with some obvious influences including Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, and (not surprisingly) Marillion and Porcupine Tree.

The Gavin Harrison and 05Ric album "The Man Who Sold Himself"... Fripp needs to just appoint Gavin Harrison the new torchbearer of King Crimson and be done with it. That's basically what this album is, another 1980s-style King Crimson effort. Unfortunately, not an incredibly good one, but good enough, and fans of rhythmic instrumentation are in for a treat - the bass and percussion work is phenomenal.

Christian Mistress was good, but not great. Can't quite put my finger on it with that one. Might just be inconsistency and a couple of songs overstaying their welcome.

Still have to get all the way through the Crippled Black Phoenix album, but it's off to a reasonably strong start. Plenty of post-rock and neo-psychedelia to go around so far on it.

A little less than 3 weeks away from the new Axel Rudi Pell album, expecting it to be nothing less than solid.

Yeah, had no idea a new album was in the works that I was so excited when I found out about it. Between Lillie: F-65, Never Quite Dead, and the new Briton Rites album, it's already starting to look like a great year for Doom Metal.
