I'd go with 1.

I'm always more about movies, music, shows, video games, etc. being done for the art as opposed to the money. It can make money when it achieves the status of cult classic. One can't do something relating to creative expression for the money and hope it gains status in art later on. Also, to do something for merely the money is like making a Michael Bay film, having your show be "Jersey Shore", having your video game be "Call of Duty", or have your music be a Justin Bieber album. In other words, it'll be an atrocious piece of drivel.

Doesn't always work like that. Ministry was a band that intentionally sold out in the beginning only for nobody to buy their work. It was only after they said "Screw being a sellout, If we're going to be poor we might as well make the albums we actually want to make" did they actually start selling albums.

So that's why bands that are 1's like Emperor and Opeth have at least 1 track in Rock Band while 2's like Van Halen and Matchbox Twenty have zero tracks.
