Which is exactly why they did it, especially since they specifically asked if we had any guesses. Anyone that says that's not hype clearly lacks a complete understanding of the definition.

100% correct. NO ONE said, "OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY HYPED THIS UP SO MUCH." They have questioned why hmx hyped this at all.

2 fits it perfectly: "Exaggerated or extravagant(NUMBER ONE REQUEST) claims made especially in advertising or promotional material(TWITTER)."
    Not extravagant at all
    1. spending much more than is necessary or wise; wasteful: an extravagant shopper.
    2. excessively high: extravagant expenses; extravagant prices.
    3. exceeding the bounds of reason, as actions, demands, opinions, or passions.
    4. going beyond what is deserved or justifiable: extravagant praise.
    5. Obsolete . wandering beyond bounds.

    ☐ Alexisonfire ☐ Billy Talent ☐ Cake ☐ Cream ☐ ELO ☑ Heart ☐ Kinks
☐ Neil Young ☐ OLP ☐ Sex Pistols ☑ Sublime ☐ Supertramp ☐ ZZ Top

Once again number 2 is the winner: "excessively high: extravagant expenses; extravagant prices."

I'd say number one request is excessively high. Thanks for proving my point further.

Why not? Popular 80s song + biggest internet meme + game based on songs + request tool on internet = meme heaven.

Done with this. God forbid a song or band some people don't like is the most requested song. It must be because someone is scamming the system, or ballot stuffing or whatever. Clearly the system is flawed. Welcome to life people you don't always get what you want and people don't always agree with you. Quit making excuses.

I wanted rick. I wanted it since april fool's day 08.

    I'm not making excuses.

I'm pointing out flaws in the request tool.

Stating facts does NOT equal complaining.

I'm not mad at all that rick is number one.

It makes perfect sense given the system that he's number one.

And I think most people playing rock band realize life isn't perfect, except while playing rock band.

Why, when I'm only arguing the facts with reason, do people think I'm complaining about rick in any way, shape, or form. I love rick.

I'm not even complaining about the request tool. I knew it could be spammed and don't care, and having the facebook app only makes that drawback a thing of the past.

The ONLY thing I complained about and wasn't even that upset over(people seemed to think I was WAY more upset than I was; it was a slight annoyance at best) was hmx hyping it knowing it wouldn't be 99.99% of people's first choice(not arguing second, third, etc.; just not their first choice). The facebook app clearly bears this out and that was up and running well before the tweet(and rick was in the 500s).

And I was over that annoyance in under 5 minutes and admitted it was a good joke.

Well...it is. We've been through this. It could still perhaps be the #1 by legit channels, but thar be spamming happening four years ago, back when both the music genre and the meme hit their apexes. It was big to be sure.

Now, I don't really care either way. I still like the song well enough, although staring at the album art in the game, I'm partially gobsmacked it got into the game, although I shouldn't be. But ballot stuffing happened. It almost definitely affected the results. Deal with it.

Proof? Because common knowledge is generally speaking evidence for the opposite.

4chan. We've been through this. It's not exactly a secret on par with the password to Fort Knox.
