Oh, I love how the game has rewards for playing previous discs / DLC, and they worked brilliantly as an incentive for me to fill in all of the holes in my Rock Band collection (including dipping into the RBN, which I just ignored before that). I'm certain that, if they were able to keep updating these goals (or even trophies), it would be an effective way to get people to buy even more DLC than they already do. Also: the regular public challenges that seemed to appear weekly, for a short while, and which always seems to require the most recent DLC to compete in. If I was one the line about buying it, or thinking, "yeah, I'll probably get that, someday", seeing a challenge that included it (or a new instrument which I didn't yet own!) was all it took to push me over, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one.
And yes, as others have mentioned, it would also have made sense to have a bunch of additional ranks between Rock Legend and Completionist. It wouldn't have to be something as complicated as an RPG skills tree, where you get recognized for your best instruments or instrument-specific skills, OR for you / your bandmates all-around high-level ability ... but that could be fun too! I'm sure they have figured all of this out by now, and that any future releases [RB4? Another update to RB3? No need to remind us how unlikely these are, especially the latter, we are all well aware] will seriously consider incorporating them.
