Once again I have lust in my heart for a Bass.

I know threads like this come and go, but every now and then I really want a bass equivalent to the Mustang.

If a thing like this ever came out I'd be willing to pay $200 for such a beast.

Just four rows of buttons and four chubby strings with a longer neck than the Mustang.

Yeah....I'm inclined to agree. I have the squier, and I've found I really enjoy playing the bass parts on it most. Probably because I suk so bad at the guitar parts right now, but still,

Your suggestion would be so very cool! and....since I've purchased everthing else for rkband many times over, why should this be any different. It would be a moral obligation...I'd have to have one.

Your story sounds like mine. I actually find pro bass to be very fun.

Yes, sign me up for the bass Mustang equivalent.

I've got two Mustangs (And a You Rock guitar) so I can play pro bass while my wife is on pro guitar.
I'd love an actual bass controller.

There are a couple of expensive MIDI bass options that could be made to work with some extra
MIDI event processing using laptop computer in the chain.

    Starr Labs Zbass:

Unfortunately it has even spaced fret buttons.
Someone has already done some Mac software to make Ztars RB3 compatible.
There is some chance that Starr Labs would do you a custom RB3 compatible firmware as an extra cost
    special order.

And the Industrial Radio line of MIDI bass:

    http://www.industrialradio.com.au/pr...technology.php

These work in a similar way to the Squier, but are expensive and you would need to do
some MIDI processing to get it working.

Wow, never knew there were other people doing the same sort of thing as the squier with fret sensing. Would be tempted if it worked out of the box (and if I could afford it)

Just have to wait for the Rocksmith bass add on for now.
Posted with my iPad. Hence the bad spelling/grammar.

Their technology looks great and has a few non-trivial advantages over the Squier, like sending pitch bend information. Unfortunately it's more than a little pricey and the manufacturer dismisses the potential to use it as a Rock Band controller in their FAQ.

    well, specifically they say:

Can the Midi Bass be used to control video games like Rock Band or Guitar Hero?
No. The Industrial Radio Midi Bass was designed for professional bass players working both live and in the studio. The instrument only works with midi compatible devices and was never intended to be a games controller and doesn't try to interact with these types of games. We discourage purchase of a Midi Bass purely for this application.
i'd say it's more than a little snobbery there than anything else. there's no TECHNICAL reason why it couldn't be used as an RB pro controller (the MPA is a "midi compatible device").

also, they may be thinking purely in terms of not being able to use it as a 5-button controller.

A pro bass controller would be nice, but I understand why it would not be profitable. However, a good friend of mine just gave a bass that she bought as an act of rebellion 5 years ago and I eagerly wait for RS's bass add on.

And I'd love a lefty model since Fender guitars have asymmetric bodies, but making a thread every few months won't change the conversation or the situation.

Well, most of them are the same in cycles anyway. Guess it doesn't matter. For the record, I'd buy a pro bass.
