Rock band 3 and Alesis DM6 Kit

    Hello Everybody.

I have a question about the midi controller of RB3. My drum is a Alesis DM6, but she have only a usb device, not midi. Can I connect my drum in the midi controller or directly in my 360 usb port to play with my drum?

    Sorry for my english ^^

We don't know yet, but probably not

Well I know for sure you can't just plug your drums directly into the x-box via USB, because that wont translate the notes into game gems. and from what ive seen i haven't seen a "USB in" on the midi adapter but it could be hidden somewhere so I'd wait until they come out with an official list of compatible drums.

    and welcome to the forums!!!!!!

Could he not just buy a Ion drum brain and hook up his Toms/Bass/Cymbals to it? I mean pintech stuff works with it, why not his stuff.

It would require buying some cables, but it might work.
From the DM6 drum page on Alesis

Can I use the DM6 Kit with a different drum module?
You will need to purchase separate 1/4" cables to connect the pad and cymbal triggers to your module or interface since the DM6 module uses its own special "snake"-style connector instead of having several separate cables. (Note: Be sure to use TRS cables for the snare drum and hi-hat control/pedal. The other pads and cymbals use TS cables.)
The included DM6 module can also be used as a trigger-to-MIDI interface

Yes it will. I even think the Alesis DM5 will be used as an example for this new adapter

How to Use Alesis DM6 Drums on Rock Band 3

Hey everybody, I just got my Alesis DM6 to play perfectly with Rock Band 3 using the Rock Band 3 MIDI-Pro Adapter, some cables/programs, and my laptop (PC with 64 bit Windows 7). I'm not great with computers and I had none of the equipment, so it took a ton of time, sifting through various forums, and trial and error to figure all of this out. I'm going to post how I did it in the detail I wish other people had posted when I was setting it up, so sorry for the wordiness if you don't like it.

    Here's how to get started:

    1) Get a USB A to USB B cable like this one ($4): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

    2) Get a PS3 Rock Band 3 MIDI Pro Adapter ($40):
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

    3) Get a USB-MIDI interface like this one ($40):
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product
*This one has a driver that supports 64 bit Windows 7, most of the others don't. That's why this costs more. If you use something other than 64 bit Windows 7 maybe you can get a cheaper one?
*You can download your driver for it here: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=...56&OS=x91#tabs

    4) Install Fruity Loops on your computer

    5) Install Toontrack EZ-Drummer on your computer
*EZ-Drummer doesn't open on it's own, you need a program like Fruity Loops to use it.

    6) Download and install MidiOx 7.0 on your computer (free):
    http://www.midiox.com/
*I'm actually not 100% sure I needed this, but I used it because a bunch of forums said I probably needed it. You can skip this install if you'd like and try it if the rest fails, as I'll mention later.
*I'm pretty sure MidiOx doesn't initially work on Windows 7, but you can get it to work by reading the post from rcross on this forum: http://www.midiox.com/cgi/yabb/YaBB....num=1168918461

Okay, now you have all of the necessary equipment and programs.

Use the USB/USB cord to connect your DM6 Drum Module to your computer. Use the USB/MIDI interface to connect your computer to the MIDI-IN on the PS3 MIDI-Pro Adapter (don't forget to install the correct driver for the USB/MIDI interface). Plug the PS3 MIDI-Pro Adapter into your PS3.

On the DM6 Drum Module, click the "PATTERN" button until you see "- - n". This allows it to send MIDI signals to your computer via USB, or at least I think that's what the Drum Module manual says.

Now here's where it gets a little funky. Since there was a lot of trial and error involved, I'm not sure if everything I did was required. Here's my best shot at explaining how to get everything to work:

    1) Open Fruity Loops

    2) Click "Channel" on the top left. Go to "Add one". Add both the "ezdrummer" and "MIDI Out" channels. If you don't see "ezdrummer", click "Refresh" and then click "Fast Scan" and ezdrummer should appear on the list.

    3) Enter the Options menu. Click "Enable MIDI output". Next, also in the Options menu, enter "MIDI Settings". Here you will set the input and output for the program. Under Inputs highlight "e-drum" and click the box right below Inputs that is labeled "enable," then click "rescan MIDI devices". You should now see the e-drum controller is set to active (now when you play the drum it should work with ezdrummer). Next you need to set the output, which you want to be the "2-MIDISPORT Uno Out" (that's for the USB/MIDI interface I got and mentioned above, your's may be different). To do this you need to make sure it is mapped to the same port that the MIDI Out channel is using (you can see which port this is by clicking the MIDI Out channel and looking under the Plugin tab in the settings panel that opens. It should have the port listed). Once it has the correct port mapped. click the "send master sync" button while the correct output is highlighted. Sorry if this a little confusing so far. I had to fiddle around with the program to get this to work (which you may still have to do before it works). Once your drumset is set as the active input, the 2-MIDISPORT Uno Out is set to the correct output port and is synced, and the MIDI Out channel is selected, you should be all set.

NOTE: I'm not sure if MIDI Ox actually did anything for me, but prior to doing anything with Fruity Loops, I did set the inputs and outputs on MIDI Ox. This video helped starting at around 2 minutes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJdf98v0ESQ
*Open MIDI-OX, click the "Select MIDI Devices to Open" button, and have "e-drum" as your MIDI input and the USB/MIDI interface as your MIDI output (drums and USB/MIDI interface must be plugged in).

    I hope this helps!!!

@#9 (russe050) I have the DM6 and followed your directions but wasn't able to produce any results. But I learned a ton along the way... Thank You. My solution was much more simple and required no software... I used the DM6 Drums from the kit (kicking the brain to the curb) and purchased a Ion iDM02 drum brain from ebay for $20.00 (USD), got a few adapters (1/8" Mono Male to 1/4" Mono Female) from Radio Shack, plugged it all in, turned it on... and then started to Chop the Vegetables...
