I'm 25 and was in more of a position to buy those instruments when I was a teen and didn't have to pay for rent/bills/groceries than I am now.

I heard someone waffle on buying a game on the App Store he wanted because it was two dollars instead of one. Price matters. Once again, we're not talking people who have old Guitar Hero controllers lying around or are familiar enough with them to feel good about buying cheap/used, we're talking people who watched Guitar Hero and Rock Band happen from the sidelines and thought "That does look like fun. But gosh, a whole new controller? That seems excessive."

DLC is always the stuff that people don't intend on buying but then find out that "Oh, hey, some extra content would be nice" once they get around to playing the game.

Also, I have Audiosurf. It's OK. I find the rules it plays by often don't sit well with the maps my songs generate. (I can't get a combo going because there's just plumb a lack of blocks for a stretch.) It looks nice, I'll give it that. And since the similarities between this and Audiosurf pretty much end at the visuals, not a bad thing to nick. But hey, maybe you're right. After all, Boggle failed its first year because people just played Scrabble instead.

It loads your music into the game before you start. Basically the track you ride on is the music you just loaded. It's absolutely accurate, but it's not a game like RB. It's more like Blitz. Here's a video to help you see for yourself.

Typo on my part, meant to say I would imagine the charts wouldn't be that exceptional. But yeah, after watching that video, it's pretty different from RB/GH. Not really sure what to make of it... I'll have to check it out sometime.

The only thing that saves this for me is the fact that songs are backwards compatible, I'm in!

The thing about Audiosurf is it uses a cumulative waveform and maps to the peaks (which tend to be the beat most of the time... I had a song with a lot of delay once that was doing all sorts of weird things). It couldn't tell a long note on guitar from sixteenths on a snare drum, but you do get a general gist of rhythm.

These will be charted specifically with the ability to switch instruments (which I think is going to be a fun mechanic, and it's being glossed over a lot).

I don't remember if I paid anything for audio surf or not. It might have been $10, that sounds like a forgettable price to pay. As for the iTunes thing? I play songs that I ripped off my CDs and even songs that I wrote myself on audio surf. I have never had an iTunes account and never plan to get one.

It will work with anything you want to load into it from your hard drive. If you have a CD collection then you're all set.

Yup, and CDs are usually bought, as well. Music isn't 'supposed' to be free, but we all have our own ways to make it.

I really hope it does take advantage of the stems as much as possible. It will be that and that alone that will get neophytes to part with their MS points to fill their libraries. Otherwise they're very likely to only play the 25 songs that come in the can and leave it at that.

Do people usually buy a lot of DLC for the mini games that you get from the XBOX arcade? Even if they do, do they keep buying more and more DLC like every week? Every month? Every three months?

I just hope that the game is as compelling for fresh consumers as it will be for veterans.

Xbox Arcade isn't minigames, nor would minigames make much sense to have DLC.

People own CDs without the incentive of feeding a game. The Blitz game would require you to rebuy songs you might already have in your collection. You are realizing that right?

Just like with RB you have to buy songs even if you already you own them (as a CD or an iTune or what have you) to play them with the game.
