I dunno. I'm reading past announcements and metal hasn't got half the foothold it used to have back in the RBN1 days, where supremacy was inarguable. It seems like things weren't changing ni the first few months, but death metal and thrash metal have really dried up, which leaves more room for variety which is absolutely a good thing.

Whilst electronic music may never dominate one week, it's the new metal in terms of generic value and large output.

Happy to see THREE country songs head over to PS3. I think this doubles the amount of RBN songs we have labeled as country. Getting Pray For You and I'll preview the others when they hit the store.

I'm still not sure what you're talking about, especially when faced with Fairwood's data.

Nothing in metal has "dried up" in the RBN. I'm not sure what "RBN1 days" you're referring to, because it's not the one I've seen. When the RBN first started, I closely watched to see which genres had the most songs. In the first half year or so, it was almost always "rock" followed by indie, with metal steadily gaining, and eventually surpassing (and leaving in the dust) indie, and catching up on Rock. No other genre has stood a chance compared to it. Tracing the lifespan of the RBN, what we've seen is metal consistently growing in its share, and eventually leveling off at... total and complete dominance, which we still see today. There was never a time period where metal consistently had a higher percentage of total releases in the RBN than it does today.

I think you may be getting the facts mixed up with community reactions. It may seem like metal had a higher share back in RBN1 days because we weren't nearly as used to these insanely difficult death metal tracks and whatever, so it was always "DUDE CHECK OUT THIS NEW INSANE RBN TRACK WOAH." Now, it's just "hey, more metal. Okay." So it might seem like there's less metal than there was near the start because people are less excited about it and giving it less vocal attention, but purely based on the data, there's more than ever.

I feel as though the opposite might be true of electronic music. I'll fully admit I don't have any data to back this up, but I think electronic music releases have been pretty consistent across the platform's lifespan. However, I don't think most people paid a ton of attention to it until people started putting chiptune/etc in the game. It's not that there was a huge, noticeable increase (there probably was an increase in output, but I'm guessing not as big as you think it is) in the genre, but merely that more people paid attention to it. Another thing to note when comparing electronic music in RBN1 and RBN2 is that RBN1 NEVER HAD A DEDICATED GENRE for this music. "Dance/Pop/Electronica" was never a dedicated RBN genre until RBN2 came out. Before that, all the electronic music was usually hidden in the "other" genre (which did have an "electronic" or "techno" subgenre), mixed in with all the other music that couldn't be classified any other way.

So this is all just a theory, but I feel like your reaction to metal and electronic music levels is based less on data, but on genre salience. As metal became more standard in the RBN, it attracted less community attention. Alternatively, as electronic music became more legitimized (not necessarily more frequent, but just having its own genre, bigger name artists, etc, etc), it attracted more community attention. So it's easy to think that Electronic output has grown massively while metal output has diminished. But factually, that's not the case.

I was just counting the hours until someone said that. But I've bought a surprising amount myself. Around 250, and hopefully in 48 hours we can add another 50 or so.

You don't have to eat poo to know it tastes bad just from looking at it. You don't need to kill a man to know it's badong.

I don't need to buy RBN to look at the announcements and judge output for myself.

Yeah, about that...I'm not going to argue with pure numbers, but...isn't RBN2 about a full year old now? Wasn't Blue released about 12 months ago?

So wouldn't there be more than 41 weeks of announcements? I'm not saying there would be a full 52, taking into account the service needed to pick up steam again, but--

I'm really glad we got another Dance for the Dying track. I always thought they were a good indie band. Too bad I can't buy it since I play on Wii, but it's nice to watch thenewnoelisoncruz's videos of the charts. At this rate we'll probably get Death in the Garden soon as well.

I know it's super hard to read where he said 'the first week that used easier genre sorting in the announcement', but I promise you it has been there this whole time.
