I dunno, I thought the OP was asking for desired genres; so... I did so.

Seriously, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but what's the point of posting a
"don't get your hopes up" response in this thread? You're not the only
one to do so; I can think of another not-HMX forum poster who often makes it
their business to say what's impossible or unlikely. And, I won't say any
more about this, you can have the last word, if you want.

    I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a killjoy. =/

It's just that as an author for TAG, and therefore someone who knows a lot of the inner mechanics of licensing and requirements, it's always hard for me to watch people request stuff that will likely never happen, and start to get really excited about the possibility just because nobody said it wouldn't. I'd rather let them know early on that "yeah, this would be awesome, but 99.9% chance it'll never happen" rather than after they get their hopes up for it.

Also, I'll never flat out say something won't happen unless I know it to be true. Like I can with almost certainty that we'll never get original Robert Johnson recordings because of the technical limitations; that's pretty much set in stone. But somebody like Dick Dale, who may or may not have usable recordings... I may say it's unlikely, but I'll never claim it won't happen with any certainty.

I also know that this is probably isn't the right thread for me to be doing this on, as it is basically just a wishing thread, and I probably wouldn't want anybody raining on my parade. So for that I apologize. =/

Yes as an authoring group I know about rights (and the older material gets even more sticky with the labels making this even more impossible), but if I had to pick one genre that I'd love more of in RBN/RB it'd be this one.

Call it my misspent youth wanting more 'party music' from it's teenage days :P

Not likely to happen, but other than that I'm pretty satisfied with the genres we've gotten up to date.

Sure there can always be MORE from genres we already have I guess
Well even if the original hair bands are hard to get, I bet you could get bands like Endeverafter, they actually had a song in the 20 free songs pack from way back in Rock Band 2, and they aren't signed to a major label either.

I for one would love to see more of them.

But my preferred genres would be Funk Metal, bands like Primus, Mr. Bungle, Living Colour, so on. Sadly about 99% of those bands were signed to major labels in the 90s.

I'm sure that there's plenty of lesser known funk metal groups that haven't been signed to a label. Plus I believe Primus has their own label (IIRC I tried contacting it regarding C2B3 and never got a reply).
I went to Harmonix and ordered a pepperoni pizza. Instead, they gave me a cheese pizza and told me that I could buy one pepperoni slice every week.

Primus does have their own label.

But after looking up Mr. Bungle, Infectious Grooves, Fishbone, King's X, and Melvins and finding that they all had major deals, and aren't even the most popular bands from the genre, I kind of gave up hope on a bunch of the others. I know bands like 24/7 Spyz and Mindfunk have independent releases.

I guess if there was an entire genre of possible bands that is available it would be Avant-Garde, with the exception of Mr. Bungle and Melvins I don't think any are signed to major labels.

there's been a nice deal of metalcore, but I'm talking stuff more along the lines of The Used, Glassjaw, Finch, etc.

We have some, but there are tons of these bands who are on labels who are or were working with RBN that I'd really like to see....
    Finch
Friggin' Finch. I almost forgot about that band.

They put out one great album, Say Hello to Sunshine, and a great EP (Daylight) and then... I forgot about them. What a shame.

EDIT: Oh. They disbanded. I feel so sad now.

Don't forget about What it is to Burn. Solid album there.
Random fact about me: My first ever rock concert was Finch, From Autumn to Ashes, and Steeltrain, back when I was in elementary school. Fun times.

What it is to burn was an average record, with few unforgettable moments. The title track was awesome, on the other hand.

Never loved FATA, even if it's a decent band in its genre.
