Well, I have to say, this turned out pretty much how I had hoped. I knew it wasn't going to be a full RB title, but I was hoping for something with a great setlist that I could port over to my existing song library. And so far, I'm super excited for all the songs and can't wait to see the rest of the setlist.

Whether or not I'll wind up actually playing the game is still to be determined (probably will if I ever bring my xbox somewhere and don't feel like lugging any of my instruments), but I do think this a smart move by HMX to get a wider audience without anyone having to worry about purchasing/finding instruments for their system.

I do agree with what someone else had mentioned earlier about having this as a mobile app (not sure if that would work so well without all of the DLC available on consoles), as I'm sure that would draw in a bunch of people.

First impressions were meh. Getting steadily more towards bleargh.

Hopefully this wasn't the great revolution to re-invigorate the series because I can't see how having a title that failed to live up to expectations paired with a mechanic that died on it's arse on the hand-helds is going to achieve it.

Personally, I think that Harmonix have missed a bit of an opportunity by going down this avenue rather than doing Rock Band 3.5 with the same set list. There are a number of plastic guitar owners who have had thier favourite title cancelled (Guitar Hero, not Rock Band before you say anything, although if this is the best option as well as the advent of the Next Gen not too far away is that too far behind) and it may have been a good way to get them on board by giving the cheap gateway. Instead the existing Rock Band client base is going to become more fractured and diluted.

Rock Band is all about the plastic instruments and pretending you're a rock star, not messing about with a boggo controller. It's why the hand-held games failed. Sorry, but it's just not Rock Band.

Why are people so concerned about the future of plastic instruments? Every song from Blitz is going to work with Rock Band 3. So is all the DLC for the foreseeable future. It's like when people were complaining about pro modes saying that they don't want to learn real instruments. You don't have to.

It'll work with RB3, yes. But does that mean RB3 is the end of the road for instrument games?

That's the real concern, here. This is all upside, since it's a hybrid game that works in both styles, but it's no promise that there will ever be an RB4 or similar. Could be that Harmonix is done with instrument based games and this sounds the turning point. RB3 is still supported, yes, but it's fading to legacy and no true successor is in sight.

If this is a sister product line, and there will also continue to be core GAMES (not just more DLC for the two-year-old RB3) in the future, then huzzah. If they're giving up on the core market and just throwing it a bone to say it's still alive, then...

I think there is two things Harmonix can do too put away a lot negativity here on the forums.
    1. Tell us the full set list, thereby thrilling the RB fans about new songs to be hyped about.
    2. Tell us they are hard at work on new (instrument using) Rock Band experience, such as RB4 or some type of add-on to add to RB experience and gameplay we love. That will help RB fans rest easy and more so, be less negative about Blitz. We love Rock Band. We just need hope of something to look forward to. Or at least I do. I think new songs and knowing the game we enjoy is not done making new Rock Band games will make a lot of us happy.

I think this is just a fill-in since they didn't have a full game complete yet (and they wanted to try something new.. since everyone keeps whining for more single player)

At first I was like "This isn't really what I was looking for." Now I'm like "But I want it now!"

I'd feel a lot better about Blitz if a more-RB-ish game was announced alongside it. I do want more of the core RB experience and it's disappointing that more of that hasn't been announced for the foreseeable future. At least Blitz isn't called RB4 so I'm fairly sure there is more bandsim in the future. It's not like they made epic single player RPGs and named a MMORPG as one of the series (ahem FFIX).

I actually think this could work great, especially in terms of dealing with the 3 song weeks people are complaining about. I think RBB could be a way to increase DLC sales hence more DLC released and then more people wanting RB4 (or whatever the next main title is).

And I repeat. That is exactly how this has worked for years. You can go look up videos of any of the DS Rock Bands or Unplugged.
