RBN Community Spotlight : April 2012

It's that time of the month again! We've got a huge amount of stuff to announce today so we're just going to dive right in with our first announcement!

If there’s one thing we’re all in agreement on here in the Rock Band Community, it’s that Rock Band is always in need of more female fronted bands. So with that in mind we’re happy to announce we’re working with the legendary band My Ruin to bring their brand of hard hitting metal to Rock Band and Rock Band Blitz!

    http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/e...ttChalmers.jpg

We are looking forward to working with My Ruin and will be bringing multipy tracks starting with their magnum opus that is ‘A Southern Revelation’ which signifies the band’s seventh full length studio album as a symbol of staying power celebrating their determination and dedication to the fiercely independent DIY ethic that has always been a part of My Ruin.

Here’s what the heavy hitters in the music industry has been saying about metal’s best kept secret :

“Husband and wife sludge metallers turn in their most personal work yet. One of the most vital and impassioned albums released all year.”
    5/5K’s – Paul Travers / KERRANG MAGAZINE!
    ————————————–
“My Ruin dish up a raw and revitalizing antidote to the insincere posturing so prevalent in more commercially motivated areas of heavy music. This is the real deal from start to finish.”
    8/10 – Dom Lawson /METAL HAMMER MAGAZINE

Tairrie B has been a trailblazer for women in underground rock and one of the pioneers of ferocious-style female vocals with her trademark scream firmly in place since 1993. Often imitated but never duplicated with her distinct brand of stylish violence and storytelling, it’s her unique throat and unapologetic language that sets her apart from the many women who have followed in her footsteps over the years. With My Ruin’s latest pièce de résistance ‘A Southern Revelation’, Tairrie remains true to self and form, once again reborn with a new fire inside her but as outspoken and confrontational as ever delving into the dichotomy of her dark places where God and the Devil play muse while continuing to perfect the craft she originated with her fine art of screaming.

Produced by Mick Murphy & Joel Stooksbury ‘A Southern Revelation’ was recorded at Soundtrack Black Studio deep in the snow covered hills just outside of Knoxville, Tennessee during the bone chilling month of January 2011. Unrepentant, unrestrained and unforgiving, this is without a doubt, My Ruin’s meanest and most pointed album to date. A highly focused, intensely passionate and cleansing record that invites it’s listener on a personal journey of retribution. Staying true to their sound and confrontational lyrical delivery ‘A Southern Revelation’ stands alone in My Ruin’s catalog with renewed razor sharp, violent scream vocals and spoken word over stone cold crisp yet doomy metallic rock guitar riffs.

Multi-instrumentalist Mick Murphy remains the master of heaviosity, sounding fresh and innovative but still rooted in Sabbath influenced Southern fried swagger, no nonsense thick riffs and huge solos. Mick wrote and played the entire album. He is a one man band who is as solid as he is relentless with his amped up head bang inducing song structures and bone crushing bass lines as exquisite as ever moving fluidly from instrument to instrument like an old school pro while never missing a beat.

Upon first listen, you can’t help but feel the chemistry between Mick Murphy’s Southern fried musical sensibility mixed with Tairrie B’s ultra personal and anti-pious poetry creating a deadly combination of heartfelt passion and sludgy-slabs of fury which remain a constant for rocks most beautifully brutal husband and wife duo. Having gone from strength to strength for over a decade, My Ruin has fine tuned their music into a sound all their own and become a force to be reckoned with as a veteran band with an extensive catalog under their collective belt.

Here's a look behind the scenes at the making of their new album and a taste of what's to come with Rock Band!

Entire studio album?!? God dammit, guys. Good work
I'm assuming Mean Street isn't going to be in it, right?

Anyway, I just listened to a few tracks and they're not really my thing. But it's cool to see the hard work you guys are putting into the RBN!

Here's our next announcement of the day!

People have been clamoring for more hair metal in Rock Band and we're happy oblige!

While it might be hard to get some of the original bands into Rock Band we're bringing you the next best thing.

If hair metal was created today I'm sure it would look a lot like Kissin' Dynamite!

We're bringing their song Money, Sex, & Power to Rock Band and Rock Band Blitz, and as you can tell from the video the band is very much keeping the spirit of hair metal alive and kicking in today's music scene.

The song is amazing until the hilariously strange singer kicks in. His voice really doesn't fit the song's atmosphere, which is unfortunate since the song's guitar and drums sound amazing. I'll listen it to a different date, but I don't really think my opinion will change drastically ><

We've got an awesome announcement to make later today. I'm excited to announce it for several reasons.

In the meantime, here's a few videos we recently unveiled:

Daryle Stephen Ackerman - Gave It My All
Daryle Stephen Ackerman - The Mississippi Flows
Daryle Stephen Ackerman - Half a Chance
    SIMPL3JACK - Racewalker

The Daryle stuff is worth a look if you play keys; if you don't, the SIMPL3JACK track is probably more your cup of tea.

Also, a new video I uploaded just now, "Approaching the Science Limit" by Active Knowledge. More chiptune!
