Video - Pro Drums with working HH Yellow/Blue Swapping - Roland TD12/MIDI Pro

Made this video to show drums using a HH instead of switching to crash for (BLUE) open HH notes.

Its adds a great challenge as well as teaches you to use that left foot for something.

Not all drum modules can set separate MIDI notes for open and closed HH but there are workarounds available. It is NOT a function of the MIDI Pro adapter.

Anywho, check it out, sorry for the crappy quality. :P

That's pretty sweet! So by hitting the footpedal it hits those blue cymbal notes or does it let you hit the yellow cymbal but it acts as a blue cymbal when the hi-hat pedal is depressed? Hope I explained that well enough.

Damn that's awesome. Too bad I'm not that interested in drums atm. That's a great learning tool, but too bad the track doesn't tell you which "blue" symbol to hit.

    that is one sweet set-up!

My lawyer is about to sue my landlord for serious habitability issues (flooding, mold, peeling lead paint) and wrongful retaliatory eviction attempt after reporting him to city building inspector (15 years rent control).

Similar cases in SF have gone up to 6-7 figures and when I win, I'm buying a roland e-kit.

Doc, which HH contraption is that? I'm thinking of going the mechanical route just for novelty/realism sake. Are there a few choices out there? I was also trying to think of a way to use an acoustic HH stand and mount a eCymbal and some how mod the HH pedal I currently have to "open and close" (or just 'lift and drop') an eCymbal.

The HH kickbox works really well for this as well. That was a great purchase way back when. My Ion kit is pretty much a TD-20 kit up top now (only Cy-5 for HH though) but I'll eventually drop for the brain as well and it's great to know that this works w/o a hitch.

Pedal down, Hi Hat is yellow, pedal up, it is blue. Everything note is played with the sticks.

Thanks, true there is no visual cue but there are audio cues and some logical "expected" placement of an open HH vs say a ride or splash cymbal. Its takes listening to the music a bit to get it down.

That being said, if all open HH notes were charted to a unique blue cymbal icon... that would be EPIC and make sight reading with HH pedal control much easier.

No contraptions, the TD12 allows mapping of the open and closed HH to specifc notes. Technically, this is a mechanical route with digital brain power. The VH-11 Hi Hat lives on a real acoustic HH stand/pedal setup. A full motion HH is still my favorite upgrade for an E-Kit.

    no solution for me??

I Have td-12 module and vh-11 cymbal with pearl pedal. My configuration on td-12: open (bow and edge) 51, and 22 in closed, but it doesn't works If we have the same e-kit, there must be a problem with the configuration. Could you tell me the complete configuration of the hi-hat. Because I changed that hundred times and I'm desesperate!

    Thank you

    The solution:

    set up > F1 >hh note border (select 22)

    We salute you (from Barcelona)
