Purchasing songs you like based on difficulty (or lack thereof).

If a song becomes available through DLC that I love but it is like insanely difficult (and means I will probably get 2 stars on it unless I really practice it and manage to get 3 stars down the road (warning you are in the middle of a run on parenthetical sentence!) where I plateau forever and maybe with a thousand hours more work build it up to four stars where I'm insanely happy with that and just languish at the four stars because I lack ambition), I purchase it without hesitation. If Roundabout were DLC it would qualify no question.

On the other hand, if a song becomes available that I love but is stupid easy I might not ever buy it. Whip It would be an example of such a song if IT were DLC.

Anyone want to weigh in on how they feel about this?

And yes, this is one of those "I wish there were more conversational threads in the forum that I would like to read" threads that I will sometimes post out of boredom.

I already knew my love of Slayer would make their songs harder than I could play anyway.

Anyway it depends on the person, some people play for charts, others play for songs they like. I personally play songs I like and will try them whether I have a chance at them or not.

If I like the song enough I would buy it.

for me Difficulty does not matter at all... it is all about how much I enjoy the song (and if it has keys)

Ah, but what about the other side of the coin? What if you like (love) a song but you're going to play say 40 notes total (being generous maybe 5 notes on some songs) on your favorite instrument on said song, would you still buy it?

If I like the song, I buy. I play on multiple instruments, so one way or another I'll get my money's worth. Even if the song is drop-dead easy on keys and drums, I can still enjoy the singing.
It's all right. Everything will work out fine.

To date I've only bought one pack of songs that didn't have keys. The Gorrilaz pack. I love those songs so much that I actually play other instruments (PRO drums and vocals) on them. I did happily discover that the guitar tracks for most of them are actually keyboard parts and play them on standard keys pretending there's a PRO version. *sigh* I would so love a PRO keys treatment on that pack.

Before RB3, maybe not but playing keys has made me more patient with songs that have long gaps with no notes.

I like playing many types of instrument parts. I like keys, but not all songs have them so I turn to guitar, and usually where guitar fails, vocals shine through.
