It's one of the few things I agree with wikipedia on musically. It's the same genre with two different names, I don't know any "obscure" genre in metal that is so assumingly thin lined between another.

That's what I'm saying. It's just another sub-genre in things that already sound incredibly similar.
I still don't see it as a validation, but I see where you are coming from.

Wikipedia is at least a more reliable source on music than RateYourMusic. They have idiots managing the "genre" tree there.

As for the topic, I grew up using glam metal, so I use glam metal.

That's the thing I never grew up with it and always heard both terms to these things and just supposed it was another sub-genre thing. I guess maybe it is the same thing seeing as though glam is an actual genre and hair is an appearance.

When you would use the term hair metal that vaguely as an image reference, you can pretty much describe it with almost every metal band in existence.

To me this has little to do with the sound and more to do with their look

Glam Metal = Metal bands who wear makeup, length of hair does not matter.

Hair Metal = 80's Metal bands with long hair

Btw I hate the labeling of sub-genres.

Depends on the genre and the album, sometimes those idiots get it right. Sometimes they get it wrong (pop-punk for example is butchered).

This. If MRNINJA wants to claim they're different, how about he names examples of each.

I don't think he did claim they were different. He asked which term do you think is better not which genre. If anything it implys that he thinks they are the same genre.

I prefer "glam" metal, and it seems Harmonix now puts glam metal into "glam" instead of "metal".

"Hair" metal seems to be used not only for true glam metal, but for the hard rock of the time.
We've ended on a sour note:

    Still...thank you for the music
