The son of composer Jerry Goldsmith, Joel followed in his father's footsteps, composing scores for a decent number of low budget films, but eventually striking gold with the television show Stargate SG-1. Joel composed music for 10 seasons of the original show as well as two straight to dvd movies and 7 seasons worth of spin-offs. Other well known works of his include Sanctuary, Witchblade, Star Trek: First Contact (a collaboration with his father), Call of Duty 3, and one of my favorite childhood movies, "Shiloh."
Joel passed away this weekend after a long battle with cancer.
