I remember my first pornographic experience.

But before that, I think my first real memory was when I almost drowned playing in a pool when I was 4.

And I said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. I saw that the light was good, and I separated the light from the darkness. I called the light “day,” and the darkness I called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
And I said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.” So I made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. I called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.

    Making a snowman.

I don't remember where or when it was, but since I've lived in Florida for as long as I can remember. The only other place I've lived but have almost no recollection of is Birmingham, Alabama. Must have snowed at some point in the one year we lived there.

Routinely lying awake at night at age three, wondering what that recurring sound was. (It was a train whistle.)

When I was around two my mom moved back to the West coast and I vaguely remember this trip. She had a silver Pontiac Firebird with red interior. (Which in retrospect made my mom a bad ass. This was around 76 or 77.)

Now, this was in the good old days before child safety laws required seat belts so I was free to bounce around the cabin while we cruised at 70 miles an hour down the freeway. Add to this a wiener dog that hated everybody, including me, and I'm fairly surprised I never fell out the window or was savagely bitten on the face.

I also remember on this trip being terrified by a guy in a bunny costume at some greasy spoon situated somewhere in the South. (Possibly Texas, which is just as good as any reason to never go to Texas).

My young mind couldn't grasp why:

    1. The rabbit was 6 foot tall.

    2. He walked in a bipedal fashion

    3. He wore a derby

    4. And all these facts seemed not to bother any adult authorities yet defied the laws of nature.

I responded in the most logical fashion, crying and screaming to be let back in the car. For reasons that would only be clear when I reached adulthood, everyone there thought it was funny. (Said reason is because scaring children is fun and adults are *icks)

Off the top of my head probably the trip I took to Yosemite with my Grandparents at 3

    1. I Remember sitting in the back seat for an eternity eating Lay's potato chips and thinking about the Lay's commercial that had a bunch of people strung up in a dungeon because they couldn't eat just one chip. I thought to myself "I would definitely stop at one chip looking at these guys, why didn't they stop?"

    2. Grandpa probably a little too juiced up then trying to climb Yosemite falls and getting escorted down by the cops.

    3. Having to retreat to our car one of the nights because a Bear was ripping through campsites.
