I couldn't find an "official podcast discussion thread" but I'll admit I didn't look REALLY hard, so if this needs to be moved/consolidated/whatever, go for it, mods.

There was a lot of discussion in the "get a job" podcast about previous experience in development and industry. The thing that struck me was that every mention explicitly said experience in GAME development/industry, not just SOFTWARE development/industry.

My question, for anyone who has worked in software development both inside and outside the game industry: Is game development really that much different from software development in general? If so, what makes it so different? This is coming from someone who has worked in software development for a dozen years, but not in the game industry.
