    What happened to song sales?

Every Tuesday I go to the XBox live "deal of the week," hoping to find RB songs on sale. In the past this happened quite a few times and twice involved large amounts of packs and singles at 25-50% discount.

Don't think we've had one in over a year now. Whenever it was that they cut the price on some of those old country packs.

I know it's not Harmonix's doing, but I really miss these sales as they usually have me picking up songs/packs that I didn't have much interest in originally to try them out. Makes me expand my tastes more than I would at full price and often playing the new songs leads to further purchases by similar bands.

The song sales stopped right around the time of MTV's exit. So my guess is that they were the driving force behind the sales. Also I'm not sure the popularity is currently there to warrant sales, I think we may be down to the hardcores who will either buy or not buy each week so sales will just be losing money.

I think our best hope is that some sales may occur around the release of Blitz as the point of that game is at least partly to bring new customers to the party.

This is all complete conjecture though so don't take it as anything more than that.

I agree that we're down to the hardcores, and that offering a sale on new-release DLC would be a losing proposition. But I also think the 'hardcores' that remain all have a long list of on-the-fence / backlog songs that they've already long-since decided against at their current price, but would reconsider at half price. When the PS3 had that big sale about a month before RB3 came out, I wound up loading up on a few old packs and a couple old singles - tracks that I most likely still would not own if not for that sale.

I continue to buy songs, and hadn't even noticed the lack of sales on songs. But, with more than 1300 DLC songs, all disks, tons of guitar controllers, keyboard, multiple microphones, a custom edrum kit (to an Ion brain), and playing every Sunday with my friends in my basement, I think I qualify as "hardcore."

It's a rare bird not seen since the days of the dinosaurs. Some say it may never have really existed and the discovered fossils are really just something else as yet unclassified.

If such a thing does exist, it's definitely not related to 'free track'. Though apparently Nintendo refuses to acknowledge the truth about that one.

They're few, far between, and usually glorious. My only regret was not waiting 2 weeks on CCR when that sale hit.

Sales were replaced by Harmonix giving out FREE codes EVERY week.
