I bought every HMX song from rb1 until May 2012. Haven't been excited for a song since Alone by Heart in February. This has made me no longer buy tracks for the collection because there hasn't been anything I've wanted to balance out what seems like scads of "modern radio music." It's kind of sad for me to not look forward to announcements any more and the "band" hasn't gotten together to jam one time this year because there are no songs pulling us together that we haven't played a ton of times.

Like 6 straight up classic rock songs this year and CCR is love em or hate em. I get it's my fault I'm in the latter. It's not like a metal fan that can get a bit if a fix on RBN. It's not like the Who are coming there any time soon.

    End of whining.

I've bought all DLC, including RBN, and what have I got to show for it? Not a damn thing. I can relate, but it's pointless to try b*tching /:

It made me feel better to vent. That's my only point accomplished.

Looking like 7 weeks without a purchase.

    HMX...my money waits for you.

My personal opinions on this weeks tracks

Angels and Airwaves- Meh. I'd elaborate, per Henry's request, but really... that's the best word for what this band does for me. One of those bands that I really feel nothing when listening to, and band too boring to actually work up the energy to dislike. Some of their songs are really bad, but this one is truly just "meh". I might buy it someday though, if the drums look fun enough.

Owl City- *barf*. I think my opinion on this guy is somewhat colored by him being a monumental dick, particularly because there are countless others who do what he does much better. The guy really doesn't have much right to be arrogant. Absolutely staying away from this one, if only on principle. Luckily, if principle would fail me, I hate the song too, so no worries.

Queens of the City- Very cool song choice (definitely unexpected, and I like when HMX hits us with somewhat unsuspected picks), but I really would have liked more. As obvious as it is, I would have liked to play Make it Wit Chu on keys. /selfish

So underwhelming week for me. Will still enjoy the QOTSA pick, and hope we get more at some point.

Surprising amount of negativity in this thread. This week is a full purchase for me. I was really excited to see the Angels and Airwaves track, "Fireflies" is a warmed over Postal Service imitation, but it's a secret guilty pleasure and sounds like it'll be fun on keys. QoTSA is the only real disappointment and thats because I let myself anticipate a full pack. It's not their greatest song, but I will eagerly buy it and hope for more.

Regarding the classic rock debate that lasted pages and pages - its such a moving target, it's kind of pointless to try and define it. I was born in 1980 and until I was in my late teens, "classic rock" was anything from early rock and roll (1950s) to about the mid 70s. For me, that's pretty much what stuck. So yeah, it is weird thinking of stuff from the mid and late 80s as being quote-classic.

By the way, for me, this has been a fantastic year of DLC. I think Cinderella may have been the only week where I didn't feel like buying anything and between Rage, Bush, Incubus, Everclear, Queens of the Stone Age, and Cracker I've been getting some nice alternative rock that I'd been craving. My only real gripe is the output level, and I get why that is the way it is.

Frankly, I think some people who kvetch about liking nothing in a week need to delve deeper into the regular library as well as RBN. You might find something that surprises you.
Who doesn't love a good album sort? Fill in those 3's HMX!

    ALT/INDIE WANTED:
    Radiohead - Pavement - National - Arcade Fire - Wilco - Decemberists
