2. Pulp – “Common People”
3. David Bowie – “Heroes”
4. The Beach Boys – “Good Vibratons”
5. New Order – “Blue Monday”
6. The Stone Roses – “She Bangs the Drums”
7. The Smiths – “There is a Light That Never Goes Out”
8. The Specials – “Ghost Town”
9. Dizzee Rascal – “Fix Up, Look Sharp”
10. Oasis – “Wonderwall”
11. The Rolling Stones – “Sympathy For the Devil”
12. The Ronettes – “Be My Baby”
13. Michael Jackson – “Billie Jean”
14. Sex Pistols – “God Save the Queen”
15. The Beatles – “A Day in the Life”
16. The Cure – “Boys Don’t Cry”
17. Bob Dylan – “Like a Rolling Stone”
18. The Beach Boys – “God Only Knows”
19. Madonna – “Like a Prayer”
20. The Stone Roses – “I am the Resurrection”
Also, the thread title is kind of erroneous since the poll was asking readers what the Top 100 songs of NME's lifetime (the past 60 years) is. This was designed by NME for the readers. Since a number of NME readers tend to skew younger, it's not really surprising that the results are what they are.
In the polls, at one point "Boys Don't Cry" by The Cure was #2 and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana was #3.

I'm siding with Gowie on this one. "Better" is subjective, but influence and importance is not. Joy Division has the latter two in spades.
Funnily enough, Joy Division was an enormous influence on AFI and The Cure, and most likely MCR, with The Cure even covering "Love Will Tear Us Apart": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szua7uP6agY
With a few exceptions, the list is surprisingly decent. Nice shout-out to "Heroes" and "There Is A Light That Goes Out," but The Cure's pick should've been "Lullaby."

Devo - "Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA"
Sex Pistols - God Save the Queen? That's just an anthem not really something I'd call one of the greatest songs ever since it was made about 300 years before any of them were born.
Also I detect a really strong English bias.

#1) LOL (but I still like you, so it's cool)
#2) Here's a link to the Sex Pistols song, which is to not be confused with the British national anthem
#3) LOL, again
#4) New Musical Express, or NME, is a British music magazine hence the "bias". It's not really a bias since the British readers who voted in the poll most likely listen to British acts they read about in said magazine.

5. Pearl Jam - "Evenflow"

8. Iron Maiden - "The Trooper"
9. Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Sweet Home Alabama"
10. Temple of the Dog - "Hunger Strike"
(of course this list is just off the top of my head and subject to change)
