[baseless speculation]i think GD:RB has ruined our chances to get DLC from some bigger bands. a band like the Beatles, you could justify giving them their own game, based on their iconic status, the breadth and depth of their career and musical styles, and their singular place in rock history. when an average band with little musical variety like GD gets their own game though, it must make bigger bands with longer careers think they too deserve their own game, instead of just merely releasing a few songs as DLC. i have no basis for thinking this is the case for any specific bands, but think it probably has influences one or two of them[/baseless speculation]

I always think it worth remarking on whenever this subject comes up that TB:RB fell short of spectacular sales. That's right, arguably the biggest rock band EVER under sold what would have been expected of such a huge band. And that around a time when these games were at their popularity peek. Also, Green Day got their own game because they really, really, really wanted their own game. Green Day themselves went out of their way to make sure it happened, and I doubt there are many other bands with the right combination of enough popularity, motivation and a deep enough catalog to even make it's own game possible. And that should be considered before the discussion of whether or not it would actually even sell comes up.
But I believe in this and it's been tested by research: he who [edit] nuns will later join the church.

No band centric games needed. Maybe just solid DLC packs from the desired artists. I know personally even when I did play RB all the time I never played much of TB:RB or GD:RB. GD:RB became a big track pack, and I played the on disc stuff for the Beatles, then never picked it up again (never got the DLC for it). Much preferred the main game.

The peak was in 08, with the release of RB2/GHWT. In 09 we started to see the descent, although not by much but still disc based games were heading out as DLC remained strong. The Beatles were expected to sell like the rhythm genre did originally, not taking account for other games taking up the limelight (GHM, GH5 and GHOT Modern Hits). They did well for what they had, and are the biggest selling artist for DLC. As much as I would love another band centric game, it's not going to happen.

Highly doubt its gonna happen. As for the argument that GD:RB was part of what killed band centric games because there average I dont agree with. I am not a huge GD fan by any means but the genre was already on the downslide, I would have went with Pearl Jam over GD though(not a huge PJ fan either) but I think all of the instruments(esp guitar) would have been for more fun in a PJ game then it was in GD.

It wasn't just Green Day. It was the Aerosmith, Metallica, Van Halen, and all that nonsense from the Guitar Hero side which really killed it. Oh right, and Band Hero? What the hell was that about? Just another excuse for them to release another mediocre bunch of songs for another $60.

The only thing you could make the argument DIDN'T contribute was DJ Hero/2. As far as I can tell, those were completely different games.

I don't really want a band specific game, but if there had to be one then I'd like a Rush game with dreamscapes and all the songs exportable into the RB platform, and ofc all the Rush songs on the platform avaible to play in the game

How about a Rock Band/Dance Central Madonna? She has 50 top 20 songs, they could have you dance/sing/masturbate/roll on floor with back up harmonies, her songs would be awesome on bass/drums and there are some decent guitar riffs and keyboard parts in the songs too. Either this or Bob Seger:RB Live! Or RBetroit with Seger,Nugent,Mitch Ryder, The Rockets and Romantics. Or RB:Grunge or RB:80's alt/elec bands that were related to each other, like JoyD,Smiths,Erasure,Yazz,Electronic,Bronski,New Order ect...

We're not even getting DLC from bands worthy of band-centric games, so before they made another one they should at least step up the quality of the DLC.

For me, it would not be so much about which band would be chosen, but rather how it's implemented. I'd like to see something more narratively-based into the band itself, rather than a selection of songs from venue to venue. Almost(though to a less absurd premise) akin to Nana On-sha's games i.e. Parappa and UmJammer. Not necessarily singing entirely new songs, but finding more plausible ways to connect them together. Just heading in and out of a few songs to see a cinematic isn't quite enough. It needs a stronger correlation between songs/venues/etc. Otherwise, I'd pass at the idea and agree that the ship of band-centric games may have sailed if nothing is majorly altered from said formula.
