Or is that just for your demos for some reason?
What I noticed in the DLC livestreams was that powerups cost a certain number of coins (the RBB equivalent of Rupees). Maybe the save data was on cloud so as no access to internet, it started with a default of 0 coins hence you can't buy powerups.

Yes, the game will require an internet connection if you want to use power-ups, or collect coins and cred (XP). The hope is that if you've got an internet connection to actually download the game, it would follow that you also have that connection available when playing.

I'm not pleased with making the online mode into a quasi gameplay necessity. Me & all of my friends run into connection problems with the Rock Central servers in RB3 every few weeks, which is all sorts of annoying.

It is pretty safe to assume that the RBB & RB3 Rock Centrals are the same servers, right?

Also once the Blitz servers are going to get shut off in a few years, you won't be able to play the game properly anymore? Nice.

Yet the company that made the game doesn't have an internet connection when previewing the game.

That's a weird choice, making some features of the game unaccessible when offline. Can you explain in more detail what will and what won't be available when playing offline?

(For me personally, this shouldn't be a problem, since my console is online 99% of the time. Still interested, though.)

It was a GameSpot live stream and their connection got messed up, we have no control over their technical problems.
