The thing to remember about Rocksmith is is that they don't need the masters to create the game tracks the way that HMX does for Rock Band tracks.

Being honest, I don't think HMX will ever be able to complete Rocksmith or one of the Guitar Heroes in Rock Band because of masters and the price of licensing. For example, someone said that HMX doesn't want to pay the licensing fees for Muse tracks. I believe it. While it would make many, many, many people on the forums and Facebook happy, if they cost the license is more than the estimated returns, why take the financial loss?

May 20th, 2012: 4 long years since HMX released "Hysteria" by Muse. The wait for more Muse DLC has to end at some point, right?

    ^ Good point.

But Rocksmith doesn't even need all the stems, right? Or does it only need the guitar stem? Or are you simply playing guitar notes along with the song without the track being muted when you miss a note? I'm not Rocksmith savvy so I'm not exactly sure.

In Rocksmith the guitar part that you're playing is pretty much muted all the time. There's a software amplifier which applies affects to make your guitar sound like the one used in the song, but you hear what you're playing. You don't play it, you don't hear it. Play wrong note or chord, hear wrong note or chord.

Ohhh, I get it. So basically the guitar stem of the song is muted throughout the entire song, and you only hear what you're playing through the amplifier?

Yeah. The game hears what you're playing and knows whether it's the right thing or not and if it's wrong it will indicate it visually. They have guys on staff whose job title is "Note Tracker"--I think that they figure out the charts. I don't think that they use master stems.

No, the guitar stem isn't muted because Rocksmith doesn't use stems. They just have a stereo mix of the song playing in the background.

That is incorrect, Rocksmith guys chose the sloppy way.
Playing along to regular mp'3 files (no separation whatsoever).
You hear yourself playing on top of the mp3 file.

I can't hear the notes I'm supposed to be playing if I don't play them.
